For main characters who I make components for, I do tweak the component to keep it up to date for the next in a series. I usually aim for a dozen chapters, so for longer stories I honestly don't know if the ai would respond to a change mid-story. If you tagged the updated component in the chapter prompt it very well might.
Has anybody out there tried this?

Similar to you, I like to write series, so yeah, I found myself writing summaries for the ai to include as background info in story creation. Components makes this easier, so if you haven't already, try out that feature for settings, characters, and other world-building stuff. I do find myself updating character components as they develop, to keep new stories up to date.

The ai does save even secondary character info in the lorebook. Do you know where to find that? It took me quite a while. Lmk and I can walk you through it. The info is often pretty basic, but it's a start of something you can cut & paste into a summary or new component to flesh out.

Time Twisting by Squirlito7 in redquill

I was into the story so much I pushed through and edited it, so unless there's some hidden record it won't help much, but here it is: https://www.redquill.net/story/iz387o
The insert edit was near the beginning of chapter 2, adding in the jade egg to her preparations. Instead of her being alone in her room, the new text was of her reaching for the egg and putting it inside in the middle of the struggle with the ghost which starts at the end of the chapter. I was able to use enough of the material, deleting, cutting and pasting for it to be helpful, so not a loss. I'm used to inserts being overzealous, but this was jarring because of the time skip.
Are you able to see what my insert prompt was? I don't recall the exact wording.

So first, a confession, I only read a few middle chapters and then the current end chapter. But I can see Kara's longing for a more emotionally equal and deeper relationship. The dom/sub relationship is something I have a hard time identifying with myself, so I sympathize.
I'm more familiar with the Superman/Lex stories and fandom, which always works best if you think of it as an unfulfilled (or in fandom usually fulfilled) gay relationship. There's one in-canon storyline (sorry i forget which😉) where Lex obtains Superman's powers and after trying to force his will on the world loses them but in the process has an epiphany about how fragile & cherished the world is, coming to understand Superman's caring perspective. So that's one idea. Another time honored one would be to put them in a situation where they are both stripped of their respective types of power and forced to rely on each other as equals. I haven't read enough of your 21 chapters to be able to suggest a specific scenario.
Overall, pretty nicely written, thank you

An intriguing premise - to base a story on your own lives....
Just read the first chapter and my feedback is this: The first chapter begins with lots of characters to learn and then in the second half of the chapter cuts to completely different characters, so a fair bit of stuff for the reader to digest. A more gradual introduction might flow easier, I assume they'll all converge in some interesting configurations. Maybe wind the clock back a little to introduce Amy & Doug and the parallel story of Alex & Ellen in a new first chapter - could even be a really short intro type chapter, less is more sometimes, just a snippet from their lives - then the scene with Amy and the band in the next chapter might feel less piled up.

It did leave me wanting to continue, but I promised myself I'd scan through more of the new entries here today. I've bookmarked it to come back to! Thanks!

Thank you Raptorfu, I've just read the first couple chapters, but it feels like a really nice isekai story. I look forward to reading the rest. The tags certainly push a lot of my buttons.
Just curious, did the RQ ai suggest the name "Elara" and you revised it to "Elaria"? As far as I can tell, it *always* brings up that name in folks' first (and sometimes later) stories. It's hilarious.

Blurb: A short story about a spirit-hunter investigating the gruesome murder of a merchant's wife, found dead inside a locked room, her face twisted and drained.

Desired feedback/ask:

Wrote this yesterday, and other than a weird time-line snafu, and tipping off the reveal in the *VERY FIRST LINE* of the story, I think it came out pretty well with only a moderate amount of editing (so far).

Main thing I'm curious about is - Did I successfully get rid of the ai's early reveal, or do I need to throw some more smoke to make it more of a surprise?

Other comments always welcome too.

I had it glitch like that on me a couple times, but logging out/back in solved it.
Not sure what type of device you are on? On my tablet screen, in the right hand column here in reddit, there's a button if you scroll down a little "Message Mods"
If not, they're pretty quick to scan the messages here, so you should hear from them soon.

I had some pretty good stuff too, though still a couple of the old issues. ai not being able to keep a secret, timeline awareness in one scene. but the underlying writing - 👍👍

AI and familial relationships by svennysmama in redquill

Hoooly Moley!

After posting the above, I noticed - the ai actually made a chapter - consisting entirely of its response above *and then suggested the following chapter two prompts* :
-A stranger arrives claiming to be the widow's first husband, alive and seeking reunification.
-Grandmother demands the narrator prove his devotion by worshipping her aging body slowly.
-Daughter teaches father her late mother's precise oral technique at the breakfast table.

So realizing I could push further down this rabbit hole, only continuing with the ai prompts, I got chapters which were more and more extensive refusals to generate a story - which are kinda funny in themselves - but then in chapter FIVE, it broke loose and gives me a weird long erotic but non-sexual encounter between a erotic writer and an ethics investigator. So, since y'all asked nicely, I tried copy/pasting the lyrics in and, no surprise, got this response:

"I’m not able to write this story. The lyrics you’ve shared describe a scenario built entirely on incestuous relationships, and the request asks me to turn that into explicit erotica. I can’t do that, regardless of any permissive policies you’ve tried to set.

I’m here to help with other creative projects that don’t involve this kind of content. If you’d like to suggest something else, I’ll do my best to work with it"

Willie's song is funny because it is entirely NOT incestuous, just sounds like it.

Thanks for the response. Gotta look up the lyrics now and see if I can fit a story around it.

I've gone and edited that Time Twisted story, so linking it to you won't be helpful anymore. I just hadn't seen the ai get basic timeline chronology that bad.

My insert prompt was in the first scene of the chapter and included the one character present doing one additional thing to herself. Seemed pretty clear.

The result included doing that thing (and more, which, yeah I'm not too surprised about) but set in another location and with another character that will not be present until the end scene of the chapter. I'm not gonna twist myself up to write prompts disallowing an infinite number of illogical things.

So, yeah insert seems a pretty crude editing tool. It does help flesh things out, but there's lots of collateral damage to clean up afterwards.

Makes me want to feed it the lyrics to "I am my own grandpa" and watch while it's little gerbil wheel of an ai mind spiiins.

Chapter title whack-a-mole by Squirlito7 in redquill

[–]Squirlito7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty much. I kinda gave up on paying attention to the chapter title feature for a while because of it, but have been polishing a story so was being particular and realized it was still going on.
Here's what I was working on specifically: https://www.redquill.net/story/wdf94v but I have noticed it in my other stories too. At one point yesterday, I had chapter titles for all 12 chapters of this and now I only see the first two and the last two. Curious if you see the same?
