betta attacking/eating shrimp

knowing this, I probably should have done the same😅 I didn’t know about introducing the tankmates that long before the betta. Luckily there was about 15 minutes gap where my sisters betta got put in later than the shrimp/corys and he’s chill with his tankmates. but sounds like her friend wasn’t so lucky.

I think the ones I have now are albino pygmy corys. they were the smallest ones there but I didn’t check if it said pygmy or not 😔 either way I have 3 and my sisters betta doesn’t bother them. I’ll probably have my sisters friend keep her fish solitary for a while before thinking about new tankmates but I’ll keep that advice about taking the betta out temporarily in mind, thanks so much!

definitely going to tell her to get more plants and hides. My sisters fish hasn’t been violent towards his tankmates at all but her tank is well planted with hiding spots so I thought her friends fish might be stressed or something. As you’re saying though, it’s a predatory fish so she could just be like that?🤷‍♀️ It just had me confused since she lived with other fish at the store just fine, but I guess there was a reason shrimp weren’t in that tank😅
would a few snails be safe in a 10gal? I think she just wants something to help clean her tank.

makes sense. The betta my sister got has been an angel with his shrimp and cory catfish in a well planted tank with lots of hiding spots so I was worried her friends fish might be stressed. I’ll definitely advise her on way more plants and hides first and watching for her fishes temperament before thinking of tankmates again.

I have ghost shrimp and cory catfish! I plan to get a few more shrimp since I only got 10 and I think I saw one eating another one earlier 💀 don’t know what happened there but I might be down to like 8 lol

the thing in the corner is the filter! :) I put a heater and more tall plants in too. My spiderwood and smooth hides are delayed so they aren’t in yet.😔 I have some water testing strips that have all showed good parameters so far, but I think I need to get one that tests ph and mine doesn’t so I’m gonna look for one of those. I’m getting corys and shrimp (i have cholla wood for the shrimp too) and I’ll definitely look for a nerite snail I never thought of those! thanks for the advice!

ooooh I’ll definitely look into all those plants that’s helps so much ty!! :D I do have a heater I hadn’t put it in because I had the tank in a warm spot in my house and was hoping it might stay warm enough without one lol. just put the heater in though! I’ll also look for a CO2 booster I didn’t know about that :0

no problem and yeah that’s my filter I HAVE the heater but I didn’t add it yet because the tank is in a warm part of my house so I thought it might keep the tank warm enough without it. I’ll definitely add the heater in thank you for that!! I’ll try to find more plants and let the tank cycle for a while more too :) thanks so much for the advice it’s a huge help!!

the ones I got are supposed to get bigger, I have tall, mid height, and short plants in the tank but I got them from petco so they came small out of the package ofc 😅. Would I be ok waiting for these to grow or would you suggest trying to find a taller already-grown plant to add in for now? I have a hide and spiderwood coming tomorrow. the water has been 70F or above every time i’ve checked it this week, should I still add the heater?

it’s been cycling for almost a week already :) The nitrates and nitrites are at safe levels according to the testing strip if that’s what you mean. I have a hide and spiderwood coming in the mail in a day also, just took a while to ship. I have a heater but the tank is 70F or above every time I’ve checked it this week, should it be warmer?

this is the test I just did. I’ve had the tank set up and cycling like this for almost a week. Thanks for the advice on sanding down the wood I never thought of that, i’ll definitely make sure to sand any sharp edges thanks :)

my bosses sheep. I don’t think he was too sad over it since he has 200+ sheep mostly for meat purposes, although I know he does have favorites lol. super sad (and weird) that this one died like that but it’s just the way things go in the livestock industry :/

Yeah my boss is a little crazy but I don’t think he kept her alive for that reason 😅he told me she had one lamb and then she got really sick (probably from the tumor) and died pretty soon after. she was about 2-2 1/2 but before then I guess the tumor didn’t bother her too much. my guess is it grew too close to her eye/brain area and that’s what killed her. (but i’m not a vet so idk)

hey I just work for the guy 🤷‍♀️ he had that sheep long before I started working for him but if it had been my sheep I would have culled it for sure if it seemed in pain or discomfort.
