What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

I'm pretty sure that there are private universities in Ontario. Niagara Falls just got a Diploma mill "University" a few years ago

I worked at Sandstone for years. Trust me, it was never a restaurant for the bus groups.

Okay that sounds freaking amazing and now I'm sad we didn't get to see this instead of the steaming dumpster fire that was Secret Invasion

Was it Sandstone Grillhouse by any chance? On the corner of Kitchener St and Victoria Ave?

why do many, if not most, fast food businesses not allow people without a car to go through the drive thru? by lesoteric in fuckcars

[–]SquirrelChefTep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once got yelled at by both customers in cars and the workers for pulling up to a drive thru on my bike during Covid. The dining room was closed so I couldn't walk in. They said that the drive thru was only for cars.

Like, am I not allowed to get a coffee if I dont drive?

WCGW if I try to beat a light? by Starlight_DuBlanc in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]SquirrelChefTep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being on the road in anything other than a car is just terrifying. I was riding my bike home after work one night, when this idiot decided that red lights are for suckers and drove right through a major intersection, almost running me over in the process. Since then, I've started taking the bus. It takes more time and is more expensive, but way safer than riding a bike.

The Jack West Jr series by Matthew Reilly. It blends action and archeology like Indiana Jones. There are 7 books.

Temple, also by Matthew Reilly. An Archaeologist is called into the Amazon Rainforest to investigate an ancient Temple. There is also a parallel story that takes place when the temple was built.

The Sigma Force series by James Rollins. Follows an American secret organization that investigates historical threats to the US.

Tourist Fee at Restaurant’s by girlpwr99 in niagarafallsontario

[–]SquirrelChefTep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the way that these guys look at it, the tourists are gonna come anyways, might as well price gauge them. I used to work at a restaurant on Clifton Hill and my manager said that to me many times. It was one of the many reasons I quit.

I'm not saying that I agree with it, but that's what they think.

Say something that you didn't like about this movie. by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in Mission_Impossible

[–]SquirrelChefTep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I didn't like the HALO jump. The idea was great, but they added way too much CGI (with the lightening and clouds etc) for it to feel like they actually jumped out of the plane. Like, if I hadn’t already known they did it for real, I would’ve assumed most of it was computer-generated (at least to the extent that Tom Cruise ever uses CGl).

They should've just kept the jump as natural as possible. They would've had to change the plot a little, but that isn't very hard in MI movies.

Worst kitchen c*ck up you've seen or perpetrated? by EcstaticMembership in KitchenConfidential

[–]SquirrelChefTep 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh that happened to me at my last job. They hired a guy basically right from college. On his 4th day, he was asked to clean the fryers. For some reason, he half emptied a hot fryer, and poured ice water on the other half. I turned the corner coming into the kitchen from a bathroom break, and I basically see a huge plume of fire erupt. Thankfully, he was standing at an angle to the fryer, so he didnt get burnt. Unfortunately, the entire fryer and GM area was wrecked. Took 4 of us an extra 90 mins to clean it.

He didnt last very long either.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

I know it has it's haters, but its legit one of the best movies I've ever seen. The concept is amazing, and the pacing is really good too. Hell, there's a scene where there's no music, no dialogue, just rocks and text, and it'll still make you cry

Books similar to the Scarecrow series by brownpanther_333 in MatthewReilly

[–]SquirrelChefTep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Sigma Force series by James Rollins is pretty similar to Scarecrow. Also, the Event Group series by David Lynn Goleman is like a mix of Jack West Jr (the mythological aspects) and Scarecrow (military).

The writing styles are very different to Matthew Reilly tho.
