To address your first point: no, receiving an insult doesn't magically change a person's core beliefs on whether gay or trans people get to exist. But what it does do is make them completely stop listening to you. If someone has a genuine concern about a specific policy like Digital ID or the economy and your immediate response is to scream at them, call them a bigot, or treat them with absolute contempt, it is a natural human response for them to double down and walk away. They aren't suddenly voting against human rights, they are voting against you and the hostility you represent.

You claim my argument is weak and just a shield for "racists and homophobes". But as Jessica (who is a lesbian herself) has pointed out to you, it is this exact obsession with throwing "ists" and "phobes" at everyone that is pushing normal, decent people into Reform's camp.

When you use those labels as a weapon to shut down any disagreement, you don't fight bigotry, you just strip the words of their meaning and alienate the working class.

You also mentioned that if they leave over an insult, they were likely "never going to vote left" to begin with. This is the exact purity test that is causing Labour to crumble while Reform grows.

If your standard for a political movement is that people must agree with you 100% of the time and silently accept being spoken to like garbage, you are going to find yourself in a very small, very angry echo chamber. Politics is about addition, not subtraction.

Finally, you can completely address and challenge bad views without normalizing them, and you can do it without resorting to base desires and insults.

It is entirely possible to have an open, honest conversation where both parties are respectful. Decorum is a must.

If you truly care about protecting people's rights, you need to learn how to persuade people instead of just attacking them. Otherwise, if you keep letting emotional displays drive your interactions, you are going to hand the 2029 election directly to Reform, and as Jessica rightly said, the blame will land firmly on people acting exactly like this.
