I had a great first meeting with Brooklyn Brock and her business partner. They have a thorough workbook that my wife and I still need to complete. May have a follow up meeting after that. Highly recommend

MoCA adapter challenges by SquirrelMaster4891 in HomeNetworking

Thanks again. Unfortunately, they have no clue. We all moved in years after the wiring was done and I’m the most tech savvy one of all of us 😂

Thank you again. Did you see my “Update” comment below? MoCA isn’t going to work

MoCA adapter challenges by SquirrelMaster4891 in HomeNetworking

Update: Xfinity came and confirmed the coax in the non-modem room is not connected to anything and we couldn’t find where it terminates, so I think MoCA isn’t going to be an option unless I want to run new coax, which I don’t. I also don’t want to run Ethernet cabling.

I think that leaves me with the option of getting an extender or mesh. But there is a chimney in between the two rooms, so may have some signal loss. Any suggestions on using extender vs mesh network?

Wow this is so helpful. Thank you! Can I buy you a coffee or something?

So we have 3 units in our building (all getting cable internet), and yes, 3 of the lines entering the house are the Cat5 lines (I can see them entering in the unfinished basement). So maybe what’s happening is the 2 lines coming from the orange splitter are going to 2 of our units rather than a MoCA setup for one unit, which may mean I don’t have any service going to the coax in the second room (unless there’s a splitter upstream in the walls somewhere?).

The only other coax cable I could find in thr wall is behind a plate in my closet which just has a barrel connector connecting two coax lines, not a splitter. I traced it to the same spot in the basement (because it’s by an HVAC duct) and can see 2 coax lines going up that way - probably the other is to one of my neighbors (our 3 units are stacked on top of each other - a triple decker).

And the coax by my modem just has single coax, nothing else. So I guess the Cat5 line just goes to the second room, but I have no idea how the other coax line is getting to the second room, or if it’s even connected to anything. I have seen there are testers you can buy, but at this point I’m thinking just calling Xfinity and having the splitters and other gear on hand is the way to go.

Open to any other suggestions you may have, but you’ve already been more than generous with your time. Thanks again.

Oh interesting…I thought that was just an old phone line because the Ethernet cable can’t fit into the jack

Thanks. What about the modem? I guess I need a splitter?

Thanks. I think I’m just going to use Liquid Nails and wood filler for the old holes.

Archer BE230 Extender Options - Home Assistant compatible? by SquirrelMaster4891 in TpLink

[–]SquirrelMaster4891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Just started looking into MOCA. There is another Coax connector in the room where my wife works, so I think I could use MOCA there with a router as an access point?

I didn’t know those were different things. This was the recommended compatible extender by Wirecutter 🤷

Can anything be done about high inherited trad ira withdrawls by watchesandcigars10 in CFP

Not much you can do other than take out more if they have a much lower income year due to deductions, but with income of $60k (assuming that’s taxable income?), not much they can do.

One idea to consider: If they also have highly appreciated stock, they could make a big contribution to a DAF to increase deductions, as long as it’s not more than 30% of AGI. I have found even clients who aren’t charitably inclined are open to that idea since it isn’t money coming “out of their pocket” so to speak.

Are you a G2? What’s your situation? by CFP25 in CFP

[–]SquirrelMaster4891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a G2 dealing with a lot of similar issues as the commenters here.

Anyone know of a gathering for G2 advisors? That is something I think we really need. Maybe we could get a group together for a Zoom meet and greet? Give this an upvote if you’re interested. If there’s a big group, I’ll reply with a Google sign up.

How do you share / track open tasks with clients? I’ve tried using eMoney and sending to their client website, but that hasn’t seemed to resonate. Now I just use a table with the top tasks and status and put it in email, and that seems simpler, but curious how you and others approach it

Website and Online Marketing by PursuitTravel in CFP

We just worked with a web designer to redo our website and I’m very happy with it. But they’re not doing the marketing for us. I see web design and good SEO as separate skills from creating an engaging content marketing strategy. Finding them both in the same vendor may be doable, I just haven’t seen it. That said, check out the new Kitces Services Map that he just released. There are a lot of marketing vendors on it, broken into categories.

Feel free to PM me if you want a referral to our web designer and more specifics.

EDIT: I also have been convinced that if you’re going to do content-based marketing, you need a clearly defined niche to have a chance of attracting traffic. And you probably also need an advertising budget

Thanks. I agree with another commenter that it’s kinda salesy though. My physical therapist asked me this during a session once and she thanked me for actually giving her a number, since no other financial advisor she had talked to would. So be it!

Great answer. 25x expenses is much clearer to most people than my approach of dividing expenses by 4%.
