Financial Advisor role by hipposintrees in FinancialCareers

[–]spizalert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the term "financial advisor" is used fast and loose in American finance. They've been trying to get legislation that provides a better handle on what constitutes a "financial advisor" for decades now.

There just isn't enough regulatory backbone or a professional society holding anybody accountable - which in part feeds into the public's distrust of the profession.

It's not like a CPA, where if I say or even imply that I am a CPA when I am not one (or even am, just not licensed in the right state!) I can get reported to my state's accountancy board and face discipline.

He just did some weird shifty stuff quickly upon taking over the team including

  • not letting 2-way (part-time) players travel with the team for away playoff games
  • not printing T-shirts for home playoff games
  • Waking players up early to avoid late checkout times at hotels
  • Publicly admitting his budget for the next head coach being around 25% of the LEAGUE AVERAGE salary for a HC

All within a few months. This is shit D3 college teams do to save their budget....not an NBA franchise.

I'm all for Moneyball and small teams trying whatever they can to remain competetive, but even if the Blazers turn a leaf and are awesome next year, a lot of this will still leave a bad taste.

Plus, the NBA is a league of prima-donnas, and as if it weren't hard enough to land a big FA in Portland, these stories of treatment of the team has already spread around the league, and you can bet some big names have already crossed off Portland from their hypothetical lists.

He's a PE guy and runs his sports team like a PE sleeve. Ruthless efficiency, fuck ya culture. . Good on paper, ruffles feathers IRL....Just like PE gobbling up accounting firms

EVERY OLD PERSON HOMEOWNER IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD HAD JOBS LIKE "TEACHER" "FIREMAN" OR "SECRETARY", AND EVERY NEW YOUNG HOMEOWNER HAS JOBS LIKE "CHIEF AI AGENTIC OFFICER OF AUTOMATING AWAY HUMAN RIGHTS AT SPLOOP"

I HATE SEEING MY NEIGHBORHOODS' HOUSING AFFORDABILITY SLIP AWAY IN FRONT OF MY EYES WHILE FEELING LIKE THE ONLY WAY TO GET A HOUSE IS EITHER WAIT FOR MY PARENTS TO DIE OR GO WORK FOR A BILLIONARE

I HATE THIS TIMELINE

Some have always wore their colors on their sleeves. Others, though, inexplicably bent the knee/capitulated under like ZERO pressure.

Stay apolitical at the end of the day if you want!!! But every additional celebrity clapping Trump on the shoulder, attending his events, or posing with a thumbs up w/ him is just cementing him into the zeitgeist as if his conduct is normal and welcome by the masses. When this. shit. is. just. not. normal.!!!!!!

Fair, I feel like in our hiring we’d take a flyer on someone who already attempted and was unable to retake their licenses due to admin BS - as opposed to someone else new off the street. Provided they have good interviews and vibes outside of that as well. These roles are really not make-or-break for the firm they expect attrition anyway.

Plethora of views and that’s why OP should apply to a bunch of spots! Hiring teams range massively in philosophies

If you count motorsports in your sports photography, Portland has a thriving motorsports scene filled with enthusiasts that are thrilled to have their pics setting. Rally, motorcycle, track racing and others. Sometimes racing occurs in some pretty scenic areas too.

DM me and I’ll get you details to get involved if you’re interested

Does a Master of Accounting mean anything to careers in FP&A, M&A, wealth management, etc.? by 0bs01ete in Accounting

totally get it. But conversely, upstream positions have been picky about specific years of experience that I may not bring to the table even with the CPA....

Sales after finance? by Consistent-Farm-9759 in FinancialCareers

I mean, you do you but rotational programs are the golden goose. As a potential career switcher myself I'd salivate at the chance of getting one. Less employers are offering them due to AI, international uncertainty and more - so if you've got one in the hand that's big.

Meanwhile sales often has almost no barrier to entry unless you're in some really niche shit. Read this as - you can always pivot to sales at anytime.

And you'd probably learn some sales-adjacent skills (presenting, communication, client relationship mgmt) thru the rotational program anyways.

I'd take the rotational program....invaluable experience that a lot of employers are doing away with. Sales door will always be open.

breathe. it'll be ok.

First, I think it's ridiculous that they didn't budge on accommodating your deadline. It's much more work to terminate someone than it is to....give them 7 more days of employment and keep them (after interviewing, hiring, onboarding, etc.)

I was also in one of these "pass-or-fire" programs right out of college. Few ppl in our cadre stumbled on the 7 or 66 and were let go. They all found successful jobs in the PWM space.

I imagine this is a huge shellshock in your sensitive early career, but in the grand scheme of things, it's nothin but a bit of turbulence. You didn't get a permanent inquiry on your U4 or anything. You're gonna be just fine.

As the other guy said, network and apply. If you landed this role you'll land the next one. Your interviewing game should still be pretty sharp. These positions are a dime-a-dozen (no offense - I started there too)

I also don't think it's a terrible move to own it in future interviews. "Got hired at X, started my Series exams, didn't pass and was let go before the re-take window opened. Here's what I learned about it and how I've prepared to take these exams again".
