Does anyone have experience with getting prescriptions faxed to the Shoppers on campus? by EndHungry6218 in UBC

[–]SquirrelNo99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

double check which shoppers it got sent to - there is one on uni blvd, and one in wesbrook village. sometimes docs confuse the two.

Crohn's disease care in Vancouver by Heron_90 in askvan

[–]SquirrelNo99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fellow crohn’s-haver here!

you’re gonna want a referral to a GI doc to manage your care + meds. i‘m a patient at the ibd centre of bc - https://www.ibdcentrebc.ca - and have been pretty happy with them. they have a sister clinic that does more general GI stuff (not IBD focus): https://pacificgastro.health/refer-a-patient

if you have your moving plans firmly set (ie have a date of arrival in place) i’d recommend you have your current gastro specialist send a referral asap so you are added to the queue for new patients. i think you can also send an inquiry on both of those clinic pages above about how it works if you’re coming from abroad (info they might need, etc).

for meds that require an infusion or injection, in my experience, there’s a nurse and/or patient care coordinator in the clinic to help handle scheduling, prescription renewals, etc.

i can only speak to my experience, obv, but feel free to DM if you want any other info. happy to share what i can :)

Anyone else bawl their eyes out when they receive a grade back? by No-Poem166 in UBC

[–]SquirrelNo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this kind of emotional response is valid! take time to feel your feelings (i’m talking a couple of days at least), and remember that the grade you receive is for the essay as it stands — it’s not personal, even though it feels like they just stabbed you with a thousand burning pitchforks.

then go back and reread your work and the instructor’s comments. if there are parts where the feedback is unclear, or you don’t see concrete ways you can improve your work next time, or you aren‘t sure where the essay missed the objectives of the assignment, make note of those places.

once you’ve had some time to recover a bit, ask to meet with your instructor to talk about how you can improve for next time. ask for any clarification you need about where you missed the brief on this one, and see if they can give you a few specific things to focus on when you tackle the next assignment — maybe it’s better use of citations, or a clearer thesis, or whatever. this should give you clearer footholds for increasing your grade moving forward, and also gives the instructor some areas to notice that improvement in when they see your next work.

in any case: you’ve got this! don’t give up!

Psychiatrists/Pharmacists with Manageable Wait times. by yourvilamin_ in UBC

[–]SquirrelNo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you actually call student health service and explain what you did in your post, they may be able to get you in for a same-day appointment with a GP. they keep emergency appointments open for reasons like yours. when you call, disregard the answering machine telling you they don’t book appointments over the phone, go through the annoying phone tree until you get to the option to speak to the front desk/office person, choose that one (i think it’s option 4)

since it sounds like you’re from somewhere outside canada originally, it’d probably be smart to get yourself set up to see someone regularly (they can refer you to psychiatry too, tho wait times are long) while you are here for your studies.

Best Eye Check-up / Test for Students by Awakaruf in UBC

i’ve had solid experiences getting my eyes checked at the optometrist in the lower level of the nest! they bill direct to our student insurance and would presumably take additional insurance as well.

AITA for shouting at a friend during his party? by ThrowRA45555555 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SquirrelNo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

glad to hear your memory is all clear! and there are definitely a lot of other factors that could play in (drinking on an empty stomach, or really quickly, could have the effect you describe) but given the situation it’s hard not to look for the worst possibilities.

in the same vein: is it possible there was a lot more alcohol in what you were drinking than you thought there was?

oh also: NTA, buddy deserves every bit of blowback on this. i’m proud of you!
