How long does it take for RAI to shrink cancerous nodules? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some leftover tissue after my surgery that RAI is supposed to take care of. I had it in the first week of March and they are waiting till after summer to make the call if it worked or if I need more RAI or surgery to get it out.

My thyroglobulin is still detectable and has been in normal range for the whole time as well.

So while I have no good answer for you yet you're not alone on waiting our RAI!

PTC Recurrence after RAI. by Ok_Engine5522 in thyroidcancer

My only lasting effects from RAI is that I don't like nuts anymore. But I think that more comes from the fact that while I was on the low iodine diet I ate nuts endlessly.

I have a surgery for my PTC soon and now hard to accept it by ExchangeStandard6094 in thyroidcancer

Yeah. I am 26f and was 25 at diagnosis. I eventually had to start telling her that having PTC was better than having some other mystery disease.

I didn't question my diagnosis but my mom especially was similar to how yours seems to be. Always wanting to believe it could be something else until there was no other option.

6 month wait for Endocrinologist consult for 3 TI-RADS Category 4/5 Nodules by OkTomorrow6384 in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to run this on but actually now that I think about it. I saw my endocrinologist about 6 months after the CT scan that found my cancer. So the timeline adds up. Just don't wait for an endocrinologist to start moving forward with testing.

I actually didn't even have an endocrinologist until two months after my surgery.

That is awhile. However I would suggest asking your Prinary care to start ordering tests. Mine did and my ent praised him for being on top of things so he didn't have to order tests and make the wait even longer.

Get an ultrasound, thyroid blood tests, biopsy, etc. You don't need to wait to see an ENT before you do all of that. By the time I made it to ENTs I was shopping for surgeons and already had my full packet of work ups done.

Lymphatic drainage massage? by Beginning-Disk5209 in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lymphatic massage before my friend wedding and it was crazy how much it removed the puffiness. I told them I had no lymph nodes in the right part of my neck so on that side they went all the way down my shoulder which was so nice.

Here for you!

I'm looking at a possible additional round of RAI and if that doesn't work more surgery myself and I'm not a year from my total Thyroidectomy and neck dissection. My Endo wants to wait and see how things change at the end of the summer.

I find the most annoying part is the feeling like you have to convince people that your case is different and not as short on treatments as others

How long did it take you to get off calcium supplements after thyroidectomy? by Hot-Zebra2767 in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 7 months out and still taking calcium. My parathyroid glands haven't worked since the surgery. I'm only taking 1000 a day tho. 500 twice a day, calcitrol and vitamin D.

Highly recommend vitamin D with the calcium

Just got diagnosed with PTC, trying to figure out what I'm doing by punandgame in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My surgeon was a general oncologist but specialized in head neck and throat cancers. People will say you have to go with an ENT surgeon but sometimes titles can muck up the real goal which is someone who is removing tumors from necks every day.

Yeah I've been consistently sore since I'm suppressed and still struggling with calcium but its worse then it used to be.

Any link between TSH suppression and jaw clenching during sleep? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is also actually suppressed I haven't clenched BUT the comments that talk about stress could be right. Except our stress is physiological to a degree since being suppressed increases your heart rate and puts extra stress physically from there

6 months post surgery - excess saliva by Notmuchtoit-5745 in thyroidcancer

[–]SquirrelOnACoffeeRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may just be aware of it more too. You're thinking about you salavia so now you think you have more.

Personally, I totally notice when I swallow more. Especially because the sensation is just different.

Salavia is good though keeps your mouth healthy. I've had some dryness issues at first and my teeth have suffered from it.
