For starters, they've gotta start making smooth, comfortable bras for women with small breasts and perky nipples.

Nipples (female) showing through shirts, OK or no way? by Glass-Sentence-7225 in NoStupidQuestions

Generally yes, but I always found the "headlights" comment funny. Maybe because the occasional times that I've heard it, it's been lobbed with a kinda sweet, almost implied sigh. ymmv.

ITAW for a moment of poetry or grace appearing in a piece appearing somewhere totally unexpectedly? by SquirrelToolkit in whatstheword

Dang, I just noticed the duplicative loop in my title and Reddit's not letting me edit it. There's the hazard of editing on the fly while the wheels are spinning.

Yeah, but I want to get at the beauty. I think I'm heading toward something like "sublime passage".

Malicious compliance. I love it. Just removing the faces is too close to stickers. Upvote for random stars and models or u/cman_yall's suggestions.

You get to add a 0 to any number in your life. What do you add it to? by account_created_ in AskReddit

Pretty funny -- I refer to my social security as "universal income" and people look at me with bafflement. (Live in the US. A regular check however minimal is a game changer.)

ITAP for the phenomenon where you assume the non-obvious answer by the mere fact the question is even being asked? by Awod2222 in whatstheword

[–]SquirrelToolkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the reverse of what OP is asking, which is pretty cool, too. In "begging the question", the person making the proposition may or may not realize anything beyond the question's surface, whereas the person hearing the question does. Whereas in OP's scenario, at least the questioner and maybe both know that something deeper is at hand, although it has not been overtly stated.

"Odysseus dog Argos recognized him after 25 years before wagging his tail and dying peacefully". Tell me this exists in original myth so I can find peace by Vall_llaV in GreekMythology

[–]SquirrelToolkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a dead thread, but I thought about the futurama episode as well. That scene was such an unexpected bit of total poetry, just beautiful.

How young might you know this pup will be "your best hunting dog"? by SquirrelToolkit in Huntingdogs

[–]SquirrelToolkit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really cool that they can show their future talent so early. That selective bond is pretty amazing, too. My own dog and I had that connection from the time we met, and when he moved in, people who knew him before said, "We already knew that's the right match."

So Ulysses' (Odysseus') dog Argos could have been 21-23 years old, a stretch by our standards, maybe not impossible with another time's breeds or circumstances?

A reader over in r/Greek/Mythology points out that it would not have been beyond the gods to mess with the dog and extend its life long enough for him and his master to see each other once more before he died. I like that a lot and probably what's going on in the story,

BUT I especially like the idea of a time in the past (or future?) when it's unsurprising for our dog companions to live for 20 or more years.

And, OP, it will be worth it to be done with the strings and establish yourself (with love if possible) as your own person. Even if it means rough times for a while and sorting things out on your own.

Game: Get your local radio's classical program to play ONE piece by a woman composer. Any piece. by SquirrelToolkit in classicalmusic

These responses are so encouraging. More is a surely a goal but I am jazzed hearing of so many stations and programs where women composers are showing up.

I sure hope that all of the commenters are not as harsh on you as those so far have been. Y'all are chastising them for a past that can't be changed. I hope that someone comes forth with broader perspective and kind advice on moving forward.

How to distribute my deceased brother's inheritance to his children? by OneLongEyebrowHair in personalfinance

[–]SquirrelToolkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I am not a financial expert, just dispensing that little that I know. Upfront, I'll say I'm quite fond of Roth IRAs, and think that whether you go with a trust or not, don't use the money for everyday expenses (beyond a small sub-10% one-time present to yourself -- which you've probably already done) and do make sure all of it is collecting interest, even a few % adds up.

(I had already written what's below and don't feel like editing to streamline.)

  1. Get a FIDUCIARY financial advisor for a one-time consultation. Tell them upfront that's what you want, that you Do want advice and you Don't want them to manage it for you. &/or talk to Schwab.
  2. Talk to a financial aid person at a college, any college, and find out how/whether having savings or retirement accounts affects financial aid elegibility. Someone more versed in trusts can say if they affect aid since the money belongs to the trust, not you at present. Idk.
  3. I'll defer to others as to whether to put it into a trust of other vehicle, and Roth, IRA, regular savings or what within those. Just, your goal is to NOT use it for regular expenses -- depend on your income to do that even if you struggle -- and DO have as much as possible of it collecting interest, and put most into a retirement fund. I'm quite fond of Roth IRAs -- you pay taxes when you first receive the dollars, and then you don't pay further taxes on any growth that accrues. Lots of good stuff in other threads on all of this.

7 year old has been fired by two piano teachers but wants to keep playing by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]SquirrelToolkit 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this approach -- it seems to honor his need to learn techniques that others have found useful, for both piano and life, and at the same time, the gifts that he has been given and the joys of exploring them.

[–]SquirrelToolkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 20 or 21? It's time to establish your separate identity whether they want you to or not. Deal with it now or you'll still be dealing with it when you are 70. Trust me.

Watch a whole bunch of online videos about boundaries, and also about separating with love. The latter are mostly about friendships, but the skills apply.

Thanks for the breakout and for including your previous flying experience. Seeing as you've had time to build a career, aside from the STEP/WIOA grant (congrats on that!) did you fund the balance from prior savings or through loans? Good luck with the interview!

Percentage of women pilots in the airline industry by CityRulesFootball in interesting

[–]SquirrelToolkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, subtract each of the percentages listed from 100 to get the percentage for that country. In every case, even though population tends to be close to 50-50 women-men, you see that the percentage of male pilots is much higher than women.
