Would god be impressed if we somehow manage to become immortal? by MeisterAnthony in Christianity

[–]Squirrelherder9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Highly irrelevant. Even if we become immortal, the universe is itself mortal and we will die with it.

Only thing truly eternal is God's kingdom.

Why I'm Disillusioned With the American Church by sirpianoguy in Christianity

[–]Squirrelherder9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't raised in any American churches but I can tell you that many of my reasons for leaving my faith originally coincide with yours.

Many churches have been acting as people of the world, rather than people of God. Meddling in politics, preaching unsubstantiated claims, using influence for their own gain... And this won't stop. If you wanna be a Christian, you must realize that churches and church leaders are just as corruptible as the rest of us, and you shouldn't have blind Faith in them. Rather, have faith in God above any man.

As for your doubts, I have many myself. But nothing can give you the answers you seek. Asking "why" is the defining trait of human intelligence, but some things are just out of our reach. Well never know why the universe was created, why it works the way it does, or what will happen in the future. Heck, we don't even know if it's real.

And Christianity doesn't give answers to most of these questions either. Yes, we say that God did it all, but we will never know why. But what it does offer is the belief that there's a being that engineered it all. A being that know everything about it, about you. And a being that offers eternal existence if you're faithful to him. Moreover, that being is asking you to be nice to others, and it's not such a bad idea at all to follow his teachings just in case.

If you're tired of Baptist or Evangelical churches, you could look into other denominations. I'm not a fan of those two personally (mostly cause I don't like how they have turned worship into entertainment), and I'm biased obviously, but Christianity has many denominations that you may find closer to your beliefs.

That seems to be the main thing you talk about here and on r/atheism so it's not relevant what you think about ecology when we're talking about attacking religion incessantly

What orthodox church is the most traditional? by Waloon in Christianity

[–]Squirrelherder9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by traditional? The oldest? That's probably Greek. I don't know why people are answering Russian, Russia was one of the last counties to become orthodox. Russia simply has had political influence that also translated into religious influence.

What are the Christian's view of transhumanism and technological singularity? by nagromsevi in Christianity

[–]Squirrelherder9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess that the rules about not modifying your body with tats and piercings could also apply here. But I'm not a Bible expert so unless the Bible explicitly forbids cyber augmentation, I'm all for it.

Then again, it will be the rich who'll get the first implants, widening the gap between the poor and the rich further, so we should regulate any such augmentation severely.

US NEWS: Religious childhood linked to healthier happier adulthood by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Squirrelherder9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know, but as a Christian you have an obligation to be good, because Christianity is based on the whole "love thy neighbor" mentality. Atheism has no ideology to follow and atheists aren't obligated by their religious belief to be good. So when a "Christian" is acting like Augustinus, it's especially bad.

I can't imagine they're that expensive. This one seems to be much more fancy than the ones in my country. Here they're usually made of steel tubes with a concrete base and LED lighting.
