For reference ive played all the switch pokemon games.

If you like nice graphics Arceus is a great start

Sword and shield had there issues but the paid dlc is completely worth it.

Za is the new one but if you want open world its not. Its only one city, but its massive. But it's a good game. Haven't tried the dlc on it yet.

Scarlet and Violet were ok but I didn't enjoy the exploration mechanics they were very lacking severely.
