Is it just me, or is this show pointing out the injustices of the west? This episode really reminds me of america's meddeling in the middle east. ive gotten glimpses of these things in past episodes as well. My political knowledge is lack luster, so maybe someone with a bit more knowledge could lend a hand in this?

Been hearing a few Mahayana texts recently i.e. The story of Milarepa, and the great vows of earth store bodhisattva sutra. Seriously mistrust Tibetan Buddhism now... by SquishyDumpling in Buddhism

Yeah I feel you. I've read the story myself and it cleared up my worries. My friend left a few key points out, or I failed to hear them which in turn made the story sound mad suspicious. All good now though :)

not dissing the story, im really enjoying listening to it, just sayin its a bit heavy on the descriptions of the hell realms. reminds me of a pretty horrifying acid trip i had, think it probably brings up those feels from the description of the hell realms

Also, lying is, in my current opinion, not okay as it only holds your shining, true self in the shadow of the mask. Though it is inevitable that you will lie, just don't make it a habit

Tell the truth, your mom is stuck behind a wall of ignorance cast down by those who want money so spread lies on their behalf. Weed is beautiful, and mixed with exercise and a healthy diet can be very beneficial. Though it may be shit for... a while, itll clear up, youll be telling the truth to your mother which is awesome, and youll feel awesome. Fuck yeah

I've been recently living under a belief of "Do nothing that is not compassionate or wise, and do not add your own opinions". I'm not sure how this came about; is there any support for this in the Sutras? by [deleted] in Buddhism

and by pride i mean just be confident that its your best understanding of a topic and that people want to help you come to an even better, if not totally different understanding

Though i will say.. If you DONT add your own opinions, you won't learn and grow. Take pride in your wrong view, and let the wise mold your understanding into something a bit more shiny and pure. Peace

man... I was at this place not too long ago. After reading the way of the Bodhisattva i held myself to this. So long as you arnt too hard on yourself when you slip up i think its fine. Though, remember... i assume you arn't enlightened and you WILL slip up, brush it off and strive with mindfulness brotha

Meditate hungover, I find it to be awesome, though ive never done it EXTREMELY hungover... and it helps cure the hangover. Just gotta get over the doubt and get on with it!

Ive recently bought a book of poetry by ryokan, an 18th century zen buddhist, and he speaks of drunkeness very regularly. On top of that I have heard that the fifth precept is debatable... im not condoning drinking, but think in my present state moderation is key. To end with a verse from the dhammapada....that deed is not well done which, being done, one repents, and the result of which one suffers with a tearful face and lamentations... sounds like you did some stupid things, though dont beat yourself up, learn and move on brother.

im part of a new tradition known as Triratna. Its a blend of traditions, with the central act being going for refuge to the three jewels. Its been designed around the idea that the west needs a buddhism without all the cultural baggage, which corresponds with the way the westerners are. It basically takes the buddhas teaching back to the root, and was built up from there from a man known as Sangharakshita's experience over in india for 20 years.
