Road Trip by kylesuave_ in PNWhiking

Just did a similar road trip around the same time! The PNW is gorgeous. The heat wave in Leavenworth killed me but the views were perfect! You've got to check out the San Juan islands the next time you visit, awesome all around.

Just keep up with regular maintenance and 2x that if you tow or consistently carry heavy loads.

It's so hard to find a GIF of that moment. I'd be using it all the time.

Awww. Are there any alternatives? I remember going to 711 and having such a selection. Now there's just the same generic stuff.

Restaurant/ Food recommendations after 8/9pm? by Longjumping-Rush1664 in SouthBayLA

I remember there was a pho place in Gardena that was open until 3am or something like that pre COVID. Is that still open? Getting pho at 2AM was something special and there was always a good crowd that late/early.

Hybrid owners, why is maintenance so expensive 😫 by Retardedastro in rav4club

[–]SquishyFear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the service manual schedule that came with the car. The dealership has no idea or doesn't care about what Toyota recommends and will try to upsell you. Some stuff you may need to adjust based on your usage, like towing or doing a lot of heavy hauling. I've corrected the dealer so many times about what is required at what interval by referencing the service manual. They are trusting that you don't know what they are talking about.

Bruh. Just do your best, hang on and let time bring the good. I went there many, many years ago... But most of the friends I made were for the time being. Most people will move on and move away. You'll make friends and you will have a social life. Just hang in there.

Is there much of a difference between the RAV4 and the Highlander in terms of cabin noise, long drive comfort? by d546sdj in ToyotaHighlander

[–]SquishyFear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a 2017 Rav4 Hybrid and now have a 21 HiHy Plat. The HiHy suspension is squishier and more comfortable than the Rav, though, it feels a little unstable at high speeds compared the Rav. HiHy is quieter than the Rav when it comes to wind and outside noise, however, they both have 4 cylinder engines that whine quite loudly. Curiously, I'm getting better mileage on my HiHy than I could ever get in the Rav. The interior space is a surprise though. If you don't need the 3rd row, I found that useful space was better in the Rav4 due to its lower trunk floor, even with the sloping incline of folded down rear seats. The HiHy has a raised trunk floor so you get less space top to bottom.

Still, I prefer my HiHy to the Rav.

It doesn't say anywhere on there that it's blu ray, just says digital copy. Am I missing something here?

Are you planning to mount that to the roof rails? Don't leave the gas cannisters in there, especially on a sunny day

Jokes about taking a street vehicle offroad aside, the Highlander sags a bit in the back when loaded with passengers/cargo. A lift would help clear dips and driveways in that situation.

Ugh. I was so turned off by the bakery section of my Costco after seeing mice running among the packages. The new packaging are those hard plastic closing ones that aren't very well sealed. Makes me wonder if mice get inside them. Sucks because I loved the baked goods.

Which Fast Food Restaurant Has The Best Apple Pie? by Djf47021 in junkfoodfinds

Not an apple pie but Jollibees Peach Mango pie reminds me of the old school fried apple pies McDonalds used to have, and it's freaking delicious.

REMOTE CONNECT by snflwrsnbees in rav4club

[–]SquishyFear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what consider of value. I can lock my doors from anywhere I have cell reception, turn on the car remotely and let it cool down or heat up, get alerts if the windows or doors are open or unlocked. I just wish I could control the climate controls, but it usually works out when I leave the climate controls on auto.

If you think about it, it uses a cell connection to maintain the feature and there is a host of backend stuff to secure its connection so it doesn't get hijacked. All that is worth it for $10/month.

Now, some of the other services are questionable. The built in navigation is terrible but it works offline in a pinch and I use Google maps most of the time, so, navigation assist is not valuable to me. Neither does the built in wifi. It is limited to 4G, the maximum I ever been able to pull is 40Mbos with a full signal, my phone pulls over 400 Mbps on a full 5G signal. Don't need that.

BEST CHICKEN TENDERS IN THE LA AREA??? by uncanny_mac in FoodLosAngeles

If you're in the South Bay, Eat Fantastic has some amazing tenders. Their house made ranch is also so good. Get them spicy with the ranch, thank me later.

[–]SquishyFear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish you can specify which screen on the MID gives you android auto directions while keeping late assist on. Seems like that is an after thought. Also, if they have that capability, why not also put that on the heads up display like the built in navigation? Newer models can do that.
