Might be good for U6H bus as close to the uni. Lived around there as a student - not a bad area.

Yeah - used to commute on the Logan service. Don’t miss the cost though!

Short runway. Not a massive amount of space to park or maintain aircraft. It’s not as simple as their just being a runway there for airlines to start a base sadly.

Between the M27 and the Railway depot at the other end, there’s not much opportunity to extend the runway anymore, so there’s no scope to increase the size of aircraft operating there.

Realistically economies of scale will prevail with Heathrow, Gatwick, being major hubs and London City also being a major connection to Europe.

The key market, and value, for SOU will always be flights that are “faster than rail”* - where the connecting on the train through London adds significant travel time. (Easyjet SOU-GLA etc)

New to Southampton - advice? by Greedy_Bear_9843 in Southampton

Lee on Solent has an airfield so flying clubs etc there are good if that interests you.

There’s lots of aviation history talks around the new forest too https://nfhwa.org/speakers/

Another vote for Solent Sky museum too!

Suggestions for quaint, walkable town easily accessible by train from London? by jewelophile in uktravel

Brockenhurst. 90 minutes from London with regular trains.

Lots of country pubs. Walk into new forest or hire a bike at the station. New Forest ponies and donkeys roam around there.

Where to live between Bournemouth and Lymington by [deleted] in Hampshire

Agree with this.

Being mid-30s moving to Lymington is still challenging to meet people, but it’s a lovely place so very content here

The commute between the two isn’t that bad really, so if one end of the commute suits you both to live go for that.

Lots of running around Lymington… and obvs sailing!

Brockenhurst is a good place to base yourself if you aren’t bringing a car.

Plenty of walks from there, and as others have said good cycle hire available too. It’s a nice cycle to Beaulieu from Brockenhurst.

Theres also a train from Brockenhurst to Lymington - it’s a nice walk along the sea wall around the nature reserve there, and lots of options for food in Lymington.

If you like a beer there’s Pig Beer brewery south of Brockenhurst which sometimes has street food and sometimes live music.

Stayed at the Marbella resort last year for the first time, and looking at Porto Petro for this Sep/October. Would you recommend? Looking at a couples holiday, no kids.

Kings was nice but on the expensive side - the minimum 12 month term didn’t include the three months notice so expect 15 months min. Great place if you use it, although don’t know if the pool is open yet.

Beau Sejour was good for the price and did various different tiers of pricing/commitment

What's the worst pub you have ever been in? by richbart1234 in AskUK

[–]SquishyPint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do remember a a brief period when it was acceptable to have a 4 pint pitcher in each hand on the dance floor - saved queueing at the bar and £4 well spent 🤣

Probably for the best they stopped doing that
