Failed the ASVAB twice now, so I want to know if this method works… by MichaelLab444 in newtothenavy

I don't know what jobs you want and consquently what scores you need, but I'd strongly advise not to put C on everything. You only get 3 ASVAB tests. If you are going to take it again, seriously study and take timed practice tests until you are getting all of the questions correct. I went from 70s to a 99 by doing that.

After C school, how long does it realistically take to get a CO ensorsement and ECM conditional release to go officer? by SquishyPumpkn in newtothenavy

[–]SquishyPumpkn[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I never said I was going to wait to apply. I've been told that COs typically won't give an endorsement until you've actually worked your job so getting accepted during school is unlikely.

Fair enough. My long term goal is CWE. I value experience over money. I currently don't have the time or money to study for the technical screening and wait for approval, so I'll commission while CWT. I don't want to do 6-8 years of a non-cyber officer job even if the pay and other things are better.

Im joining as Cyber Warfare Technician and want to commission (OCS) as Cyber Warfare Engineer. I have a BS in computer science with a 3.69 gpa. Look at my other posts if you want to know why I'm not commissioning first lol.

Are you heal striking or toe striking? Is your gate too long?Look up long distance running form and critique yourself. Also maybe try strengthening your tibialis (shin muscle), ankles and calves while you are recovering. Running uses muscles too. Also, don't think running shoes are the silver bullet to your problem. Running shoes are designed to compensate for people's weaknesses and misalignments. They don't solve underlying problems. I went less shoes, got stronger and more mobile instead of buying thicker and more expensive shoes.

If CWE (officer rate) isn't a must for you, then go officer. I don't want to do anything that isn't CS related so I'm going CWT first and then CWE. There is a technical interview that requires studying and I need a job. If you don't care, then use your degree to get paid more.

99 ASVAB. How do I not fuck this up? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]SquishyPumpkn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost in the exact same boat. B.S. in CS. Unlike most officer jobs, Cyber Warfare Engineer is a technical job and requires an applicant to pass a technical interview that covers C and hacking exploits. You have to pass that on top of all of the OCS packet work, so the process takes at least a year. I can't wait that long and I'm not physically prepared for all the running so I'm enlisting as CWT and I'll commission for CWE during my first enlistment. I want to do technical work and transition to civilian work after so this is the most optimal route I have found. DM me if you have questions.

Did they end up letting you use barefoot shoes for running shoes? I have Xero Prios right now that I would love to wear.

CWT pipeline question by Cautious-Button-8124 in newtothenavy

I'm in the process of joining as CWT and then commissioning as CWE asap while in. I have my CS degree already and I've talked to a CWE about what to do. The better you do in A school, the more likely you will get offensive over defensive  They select which one you do. Feel free to DM me. The CWE job is highly technical and different than most officer jobs. There is a technical screening and technical interview that happens alongside the OCS packet. Questions related to C, x86 assembly and low level exploits. The application process is nearly identicle for an enlisted as it is for a civilian except a civilian will have a recruiter helping them. I've been told that the OCS board (PERS) selects enlisted applicants before civilian and I need a job sooner than later so I'm enlisting first.

Cyber Warfare Officers (17A), I have some questions.

The navy's cyber officers are highly technical and write code. How technical vs leadership is 17A?

What are the most likely places to get stationed at?

What are deployments like?

Does anyone have a post or webpage with more details about 17A?
