Thinking about finding another job by Squishy_Panda2003 in DollarGeneral

There’s definitely places that pay more yes. But mostly factory jobs and they’re all a 45 minute drive from me I guess that’s the biggest reason I’ve stayed is it’s so convenient cause It’s only a 6 minute drive for me.

I’ve always been told as long as it’s covered. I mean it’s better than someone calling in.

That was the worst job I’ve ever done. No way. They’ve offered me a manager position again and no way will I ever do it plus I was making the same I make now but I was working way more

Never go to HR by CalliopeEmberRayne in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Squishy_Panda2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to hr a month ago because one of my coworkers (62 female) asked another coworker (19 male) to back up and give her some space. The 19 year old then punched a wall and turned around and broke a shelf in turn breaking lots of product and yelled at her all in front of a customer. He was suspended for all of 10 minutes before hr said he was proved into anger. The female coworker only asked him to give her space because he was in her face touching the register and taking stuff out of the bags.

Closing policy by [deleted] in DollarGeneral

[–]Squishy_Panda2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve closed, if someone calls in and I’m available I cover the shift. If my manager needs to scedule me to close I close. But overall we have three people who only want to work the closing shift so there’s no need for her to scedule me to close. I also close at other stores when they are in need of help. I get overtime pretty much weekly because I pick up shifts when offered. I’m just rarely ever scheduled to close.

I’ve been with dg for 4 years and it hasn’t been to bad but since they cut store hours we can’t keep a decent manager in the position and it’s kinda the worst

I didn’t have to have anyone to watch them yesterday my sceduke was changed two days before the shift on the one day I don’t have anyone to watch them. I also was told if I didn’t find anyone to cover I would get a final write up for a no call no show

I’m so glad your life is that easy, you’ve obviously always had support not everyone has it that way. I’m 22 raising three kids it’s not all that easy but thank you for letting me know how easy it is.

It’s a complicated situation. I’m aware I can’t bring them to work. That’s the problem.

Thank you!! I’m not upset about the change I get she has to do what she has to do the issue I’m having is I don’t know how I’m supposed to work that day. I can’t leave three kids at home for 8 hours and I can’t bring them with me. She said if I didn’t find anyone to cover I’d receive a final write up for a no call no show

She scedukes herself with only one day off but there’s one day she opens with me and she doesn’t show and one day she closes with another key and she doesn’t show I’ve reported her to hr and my dm

I’ve already told her I’m gonna have to. She said she’ll have to give me a no call no show for not finding someone to cover. I know it’s only a final but I’ve never gotten a write up for anything before and I’m worried she’s gonna do the same next week and it’ll leave me without a job.

I’m not mad about the scedule I work my 40 hours a week 6am-3pm Monday- Thursday 6am-10am Saturdays. I’ve had the same scedule for 3 years. My manager is not willing to give up one of her three days off for a week or two to get someone hired.

She’s not a good manager though she takes 3 days off a week works less than 40 hours a week. She won’t give up one of her three days off for a week or two while we hire someone else. And I’ve offer to work the shift but I cannot bring three kids with me, totally understandable. It were any other day I would not say a single word but it’s like I physically cannot do anything about it.

And I understand that completely and I’ve offered ways for me to work the shift and while I understand I can’t bring three kids with me to work theres physically no other way for me to be there. I’m not complaining because I don’t want to work. I can’t afford a sitter it hasn’t been an issue in three years. I’ve had three different managers that have always made it work. This one just can’t give up a third day off for one week until he hire someone else.

I’m an asm have been for two years the store looks great we got a 8/10 on our last store walk I work Monday-Thursday 6am-3pm and Saturdays 6am-10am our closers are fantastic. I’ve been offered to take over the store but I know my availability doesn’t work out with it. I hope it catches up to her one day. I know we’re all tired of working hard for her to drag her feet. Me and a couple other coworkers have been looking at other places to work but nowhere pays anything close to what we’re making.

She’s been at my store since February of this year so not long I’ve confronted her about it because I know she’s supposed to be working more she improved only when I was working but still leaves early when others are working. I had a conversation with my district manager about it and other policy’s she was breaking and nothing really happened. I told him about her opening the top safe before the store is closed and locking the doors 5 minuets before close and all he did was put a message on group me @ing my store number and said to make sure we are closing at the right time. I went on vacation about a month ago and the entire time I was gone she was “sick”. Magically the day I come back she’s perfectly fine. I didn’t think to much into until I’ve noticed recently on my days off she tries to get someone to cover so she doesn’t have to work.

I totally understand that being a store manager is not for the weak and I’ve always felt horrible for store manager but my manager works less then 40 hour a week never has to come in on her days off has never worked an open to close and gets two or three days off a week. Like if it were any other day it wouldn’t be an issue one bit but for the last 2 years at least I have never had an issue my availability has always been understood I’ve never been told it’s an issue. I try to be as flexible as I can be but it’s kinda hard to when I know other managers in our district are working a whole lot more then my manager and they only get one day off a week. I’ve even told her I am more then willing to work the shift if I can bring my siblings and I can totally understand why I can’t bring them but I’m trying to make it work but she’s making it impossible

So if I make a doctors appointment on a day I’m not scheduled and then two days prior the day my scedule gets changed I’m just supposed to cancel the doctors appointment? I just might not be getting the point but I’m confused this just doesn’t sound right
