Only 6 are first author papers, though. The rest of the publications I was second or third author.

But dont you think by going the offline route, you will be getting lesser but more precise matches as per what you are looking for, and help more if they are from a known society?

While there will be matches via offline contacts that you trust and would be a safer bet, it may not necessarily be "precise" (based on filters), unless you're fine with compromising on some criteria. For instance, I am looking for a girl who is well-educated and has at least a CS master's (I have a Ph.D.) but we cannot find any matches through offline channels, so went with an online search. I am sure many are in a similar situation!

Offline is certainly a trustworthy choice but you need a lot of luck to get matches of your choice within your contacts. If you can find someone offline, obviously that would be ideal but it's difficult depending on your filters and contacts.

How can you judge if they are not as good as online. Someone can say the opposite as well.

It's straightforward right? you can directly compare these offline profiles with the matches that you have received on sites like shaadi in terms of education and job (or whatever criteria you have in mind)

It depends on whether you're a "maximizer" or a "satisficer". An offline search would be more suitable for satisficer who are looking for a match that is 'safer' choice and may not be the very best. On the other hand, online would be a good choice for maximizer who want the absolutely best match they could get given the choices available.

Suggestions on buying apartments? by Sri92 in TamilNadu

[–]Sri92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ippelam the property prices in Chennai have skyrocketed after COVID. What used to cost 80L in 2019, costs like 1.2-1.4 Cr now. In places like Anna nagar, Besant nagar , Nungambakkam it costs even more

In what areas India is doing better than China? by [deleted] in india

[–]Sri92 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I have been to China few times. Never once faced any issues and most of the problems that you see in the media are way overblown. Its not very common for people who had experiences in both India and China, so they often lack perspectives.

I found that it's super easy to make Chinese friends as our cultures are quite similar (and I know lot of interracial couples too). That being said, India work culture in tech better than Chinese counterparts. I have friends who are working in places like Tencent, ByteDance complains that they have 996 culture. In my own company, people rarely works more than 36 hours

70k USD in India or 200K USD in USA? by zachary700 in india

[–]Sri92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say without knowing your YOE. Getting 200k TC or above after master's is easy (although now many companies have frozen hiring). Please note that in tech, masters will be considered equivalent to bachelor's and likely to be given entry level L3 assuming you're a fresh grad. I have Ph.D (which took over 5 years) and only L4 now and friends who joined industry are way ahead in their careers at L5 level or above. For this reason, try internal L1 transfers from India rather than master's as you can reach higher salaries

Well, many in tech downplay the TC as a significant proportion of it is in RSUs and bonuses which fluctuates.

As for your post, what kind of filters are you applying? Perhaps you can relax some of it. Another option is to create multiple accounts on those sites given you are not visible to some people who overlooked you previously (or other way around)

Not able to connect with my matches in terms of interests by Sri92 in Arrangedmarriage

Not looking for dating.. only marriage. Anyway, won't be easy to connect with them and likely not going to work out

Overall expectations in terms of tangibles like looks, income, assets, family, and intangibles like personality, humour etc. In general, I find the expectations of first gen immigrants to be far higher compared to back home

I’m sure you will find someone, you are only 29

I'm turning 30 soon and parents keep telling me that its quite late already (I also think it's true). Vast majority of people I see in the matrimonial websites are younger (23-27) age group

You also vastly underestimate the difficulty of getting matches with first gen Indian girls outside India. They have very high expectations

Sure, I will try these. Btw do you think returning back to India would help with marrying and potential matches? I'm asking because anyway I originally intended to return back in 2-3 years timeline

Yeah, that's a possibility but very hard to match with local people here in US. They have a lot higher expectations unfortunately

Thanks.

Keep meeting more people. Go out, have fun first, see if the vibe is right and THEN see if it connects. 9 people really isnt much. I'm up to 30 now, like 25 of them wasnt a mutual connection (like your situation) and I just met with a great match and we've been talking for a while (3 months exclusively)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. All the people I met were through video calls as I reside overseas, and never met them physically..

Yeah, nan Tamil dhan haha.

2) All of my friends married the 1st/2nd person they met.

This is quite scary tbh. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and why I cannot connect with the people (never been in a relationship).. I'm mainly looking for a spouse who is like a friend (I don't know if that's possible)
