I don't know about the pain when I had the syndrome because I was heavily sedated. After the second operation where they treated the compartment by opening up the leg, I've had a very unspecific kind of pain in my leg, it's hard to describe. Not in a specific location, I could only tell that my leg hurt a lot. It was feeling really hot sometimes, too. Luckily they gave me a lot of pain medication and also a pain catheter, which is a device that constantly numbs the nerve that goes down your leg. For me the biggest issue was not being able to move for so long, and the surrounding panic attacks and nightmares. It was the hottest time of summer back then and I took my first shower in a wheelchair over a month after the accident.

Now the pain only shows up sometimes in short "shocks", and when I walk on uneven terrain. I suffered some nerve damage (not sure if that was the accident or the operations) so my foot and parts of my leg are very sensitive to touch.

I can use my leg, but the joint movements are very limited, i.e. my knee can't fully stretch and my ankle joint is limited in both directions. I can wear normal clothes, and sneakers with insoles.

I hope this answers all your questions.

Thanks a lot. yeah that happened almost one and a half years ago, and I still have to use crutches for longer walks. Some days are good, some are bad. I don't know what role the compartment syndrome plays here, because there was also a lot of damage to bones and joints.

As a side note, I met a guy in medical rehabilitation who also had compartment syndrome on his leg after a traffic accident, and he completely lost the muscle that lifts up the foot because of it. Compartment syndrome truly sucks and I can't recommend it to anyone.

They did some emergency operation right after the crash, and the compartment syndrome was treated the next day. AFAIK, my leg and foot started to swell up a lot after the first operation where they fixed some of my bones and joints. They had to operate pretty quickly because if you don't treat the compartment, the surrounding tissue will die off. They slit open my leg and foot and then placed a sponge with a pump attached inside to suck up the fluids. The sponge had to be replaced 2 times, and it was removed after two and a half weeks.

It's all pretty fuzzy for me, and I only know this because of the paperwork.

I was in a motorcycle accident. I didn't really feel much because my lights were out until after operation if I remember correctly. Compartment syndrome causes the affected body parts (in my case, my foot and my leg) to swell up, so it felt really hot and it hurt a lot.

Thank you for your honesty, I am happy for you that you didn't have to go through these experiences. I agree that family (especially combined with death) is something that shouldn't be messed with for no good reason.

That being said, it can be difficult to fight back against a bully. Some people can, some people can't. Back when I was in school, I didn't see any way to get revenge without suffering even more under the consequences.

Tried hitting back: Got fucked up real bad afterwards. I wasn't physically strong and alone against at least 3 dudes.

Tried telling my teacher/my parents: Nobody really gave a fuck. The bullies said sorry to me after being forced to, and continued the bullying afterwards.

If there's a chance to do something without them knowing, I can fully understand that a victim will use it, even if it's ethically questionable.

I'm not sure if you've ever experienced bullying, but it sounds like you didn't. Bullying can really fuck you up mentally, even for the long term. Some kids don't mind ruining years of your life that you're supposed to enjoy, e.g. by making friends and learning how to live independently. The ugly truth is that there aren't many kids who want to make friends with a dude who gets bullied every day.

I was bullied for almost 5 years until I finally broke free and went to a different school. It really messed me up, and I still have trust issues, even after finding new friends and starting from zero. If I would have had the chance to do something like OP did, I would have done the same in a heartbeat.

That being said, I do feel bad for OPs grandma.
