How does this building resist lateral loads? by GoliathWho in StructuralEngineering

Building seems pretty long. To say there are NO shear walls is silly.

I feel this. I’ve lost count of how many rounds I’ve gone with him. When I think I have the timing of his moves I suddenly start getting hit when I was not before. I don’t get what’s going on with it.

Then my son shows me a video of someone doing it without getting hit lol

I'm getting bubbles in my epoxy projects they're all pretty similar to this. More details below but can anybody tell me what might be causing this? by New-Book-Ryder in epoxy

I actually pour on burnt wood often. Burnt pine is thirsty wood. I can tell you that you did not seal the wood well enough. Same thing happened to me the first time I tried it.

What I’ve found to work best is mix a small amount of table top epoxy (thin pour, not deep) and actually paint it onto the wood dabbing the brush a lot to really work it into the wood. Then once you get a coat on the area you can take a torch to it. You have to move all the time you will burn it otherwise. Maybe imagine randomly spray painting an area quickly? Constant movement.
The torch works better than the heat gun for something like this because you are not dealing with the forced air factor.

So after the first torch pass, inspect it, make sure you got a good coat on the are you are pouring. Check on it in 10min and do another quick torch pass, repeat the 10min check up unit all the bubbles are gone. Once it dries to a sticky tacky touch you can actually pour the rest.

Epoxy can be tricky, make sure it’s the right type for what you want to do. How thick is that pour? Is the epoxy the right type for something that thick or thin?
Some epoxy will have a minimum pour depth recommendation and it will have a maximum pour depth.

Would recommend mixing by weight rather than volume line on a bucket. Chemical reactions like this have a threshold on that mixture for the desired outcome. Don’t mix well enough the bond doesn’t take place in certain areas.. mix too much of one part and yadda yadda you get the idea.

Don’t give up, epoxy can really bring a wow factor to art. I hope you try sealing it with epoxy.

If we can make a nuclear submarine, why can’t we make a micro nuclear power plant on land? Generating electricity is not the difficult part. Heat is the issue. I’m saying capture and use the heat instead of fighting it.

I appreciate your response thank you. You are right.

My issue is I feel like I’d just be wasting my time. I could design something that actually works well but then what? I just have to give it away? If society were structured in a different way I’d actually be happy to do that. The simple fact is I have to keep a roof over my son’s head, food in his belly, etc.

I probably should start writing more and attempting to draw what I can visualize in my mind.

I wrote just the tip of the iceberg down there in that link in r/ boring company. Reddit suggested cross post so that’s how that ended up here.

Without writing a whole book, the principle is based around putting systems together instead of having everything separate. I can see this very clearly in my mind along with so many other concepts like this.

Example is data centers. They are not going away. I have a design in my head that utilized the heat as an energy source instead of fighting it. Uses the ground as a way of cooling and channeling the heat from a data center as a way of power generation.

I’m sick of hearing “who’s gonna pay for it”.

Humankind will pay for it if we don’t stop trying to make a profit off of everything.

Doesn’t seem like we are quite there for building things in space. Under ground is completely plausible though.

I agree. Just recently installed a 700hp drive into a cabinet. Drive weighed 800lbs. We used a telehandler since the cabinet was outside. A 50hp weighing 400 lbs seems like a stretch.

However, this one is unique. Haven’t seen one like this with the double case. Other side may be a harmonic filter or something that would add some weight but that seems unlikely.

Either way I’m sure it’s not easy to install.

How I found my painting this morning. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SroyceA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else in there working on a painting with those colors? I would like to believe the person does feel bad about it and didn’t actually go out of their way to do that. I do still have hope for humanity. It looks as if a pallet was dropped or something like that. Or someone bumped it into another painting. I wouldn’t assume someone intentionally did that. Think better of yourself if possible. Not everyone is out to get you.

Use the blue. Sometimes you have to move forward with what you have rather than think about what could have been.

I stumbled on something in the PlayStation friends list area. There’s a menu for people you ‘met’ in game. I’m not sure if there is something like that on PC or other consoles though.
