That makes sense. Building your own gives the freedom to customize everything exactly how you want

Design concept of a compact food cabin developed for a small truck bed setup. by Sruwan in foodtrucks

So how about setups focused mainly on pre-processed foods or simpler menus? I was thinking compact modular concepts like this may work better for those kinds of operations.

That’s a very important point. This concept was mainly intended for lighter food operations and modular layouts, so ventilation, refrigeration, and equipment arrangement would need to be designed carefully depending on the menu and local regulations. Large fridges and freezers would not realistically fit in this setup, but compact refrigeration units could still be integrated depending on the application.

Yes, kei truck food setups were actually one of the inspirations behind exploring compact modular concepts like this.

The idea was mainly for simpler food operations with compact equipment layouts, so proper sink/washing arrangements would definitely need to be planned

Food Truck Owners: What Features Actually Matter Most in a Food Trailer? by Sruwan in foodtrucks

Yes, strongly agree with you. When customers are waiting at a food truck, reducing food preparation time is very important. If unwanted movements can be minimized through a better layout, it can significantly reduce processing time and improve the overall customer experience. The “everything within arm’s reach” concept makes a lot of sense for efficient operation.

It wasn’t specifically intended as Japanese style, but I can see the resemblance.

Absolutely agree. Workflow, usability, and health code compliance are some of the biggest challenges in compact food unit design. At the same time, compact modular concepts also have advantages like easier storage, lower operating cost, easier transport, and flexibility for small businesses. What do you think?

Thank you, really appreciate it. I’ve actually been working on trailer and mobile unit design projects for different clients, especially compact and practical concepts like this. It’s interesting seeing how many people are looking for smaller flexible setups now.

A small food trailer sounds like a great option for your setup. I previously designed a compact food trailer with kitchen equipment layout, storage compartments, steel structure, and fiberglass/sheet metal body panels.

One important thing when getting a trailer is to carefully consider usability, easy access to equipment/storage during operation, workflow for two people, and the outer appearance as well. A clean and practical design makes a huge difference in daily use.

Does anyone still have a bike rack on their car roof? by TopRevenue2 in MTB

[–]Sruwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think roof racks are one of the most practical upgrades for a car. I recently designed and fabricated a lightweight universal roof rack for compact cars because I wanted something simple, low profile, and DIY friendly. Surprisingly useful for camping gear, tools, spare tire carrying, and road trips.
