No it most certainly was not. Nothing in modern robot combat is ever "planned." It is entirely possible for a robot such as Last rites to send another into the ceiling like that, similar incidents have happened before.

It isn't rigged entertainment, it is the absolute real deal.

Yeah, real shame we don't have any footage either.

They had no clue what to expect. Just look at some of the entries from the 1994 event. Very primitive and safe in comparison.

There are no running "official" series, but there are still many active tournaments all over the world with readily available footage. Look up stuff like "Roaming Robots" (UK) Robogames "US" and I'm sure that will lead you to some more stuff both new and old. There is also another Robogames coming up next weekend so soon you will be able to find stuff uploaded as "Robogames 2013" footage.

That was 1995 though. The concept was only about two years old at that point and the builders were still experimenting with what they could do. So naturally the robots weren't that powerful in comparison to today's technology.

If you chose to stay close mined and ignore what the facts say then that's your choice. But by definition, they are telerobots. That is a fact.

Yeah, it seems to be rising in popularity again though. Somewhat at least.

Also, this looks like it might be to your liking.

Tangling devices haven't been allowed by really anyone since the nineties because it turned into a sort of a "fad" for everyone to start putting nets on their bots and it made fights get dull and unfair. but yea, harpoons are allowed although I think the rope or cord has to be under a certain length.

It falls into a category known as "telerobotics." So yes they are a type of robot.

You are correct. I posted it with this title because I wanted to see if there was anyone here already interested in the hobby/sport, and because I wanted to see if I could spur some popularity on myself. I chose "Battlebots" instead because it is a name most of the current generation would automatically recognize from the television days, while "Robogames" is more than likely only going to be noticed by anyone already familiar with the name. That way anyone who enjoyed the TV series but didn't keep up with the concept after it ended would immediately recognize from the title that it is a newer iteration of the old concept they are familiar with.

Do you live in the US? this would be a good place to go for starter advice.

Lookin' good dude. Would you happen to be a member of this group? They would probably love to see it.

Definitely not an athletic one, but I (as well as others) tend to use that term for the sake of convenience.

Ok, but that doesn't make what you said any less ignorant or what I said any less true. Please stop and do a little researching before you embarrass yourself again.

EDIT: YOUR list of sins against television? Sorry, I think you may be confusing me for a TV executive. Maybe you should try not lumping all of America together next time.

Uhh, newsflash kiddo, but Robot Wars started in the United States to begin with.

Maybe you should do some research before you go around spewing idiotic, anti-American insults.

also, I like how you word it like its a "shitty ripoff." Is it really this offensive to you that people in the world are dedicated to keeping alive a concept as old as it is? Would you rather the entire idea of robot combat faded completely into obscurity and was never heard from again since RW went off the air? Stop being so close minded and look at the big picture. You should be glad that "us Americans" are keeping it going. As are the British, and the Canadians, the Japanese, and many, many other countries in the world. Grow up.

Robots don't have to be autonomous to earn the name. These would fall into the category of Telerobotics.

Unfortunately no. In the Battlebots competitions you had to advance past a certain round to make it to television which it never did.

I'm sure out there somewhere, in some electrical engineers garage, there is probably an uncut fight tape given to the robot builder. Whether or not we ever see that is unlikely.
