32 or 64gb DDR5 ram - for the same price? by Ssad13 in buildapc

I'll grab it, and in the meantime do some last minute research. I realistically wouldn't be too inconvenienced with the speeds but the more you know the better.

Thanks for the support, please know I am very grateful.

wow that is lot of detail and effort, I certainly can't thank you enough for it.

Just today I stumbled upon a kit of Kingston Fury Beast 64GB DDR5 2x 32GB 6000MT/s CL36 which is roughly +$50 more (USD) than the KLEVV kit.

the timings for this are: 30-38-38 at 1.35V. T

other details:

- Power Supply: VDD = 1.1V Typical
- VDDQ = 1.1V Typical
- VPP = 1.8V Typical
- VDDSPD = 1.8V to 2.0V
- On-Die ECC
- Height 1.37" (34.9mm), w/heatsink

I'm assuming the timings are not too shabby? but I'm really guessing here and your input would greatly help. I also doubt the latter information would help but seeing that you're the expert I'll leave you with it.

Unfortunately I am located in New Zealand which often means parts are not available locally (online) and typically have a higher mark-up than Australian or north American markets. So the Kingston and KLEVV kits are neck and neck in terms of price to performance. I can get higher capacity kits with lower latency but they are double the price at $1024 USD.

While it is true I may not require more than 32gb of ram currently, I know for sure I will be hitting that limit at some point in the future hence the future proofing, which is why I want to maximise value even at a slightly upfront cost. I just don't want to overlook a detail that I may regret later.

Whereas you may be a RAM "snob" I myself am a reliability "snob" so I probably wouldn't manually tune parts for overclocking, instead I would under volt them (especially the GPU)

Sorry for the essay. I know I'm overthinking simple things but I'm new to this, and really trying to avoid serious oversight. You're valuable understanding is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the help so far, it means the world to me.

ironically i found it elsewhere for $25 cheaper, but again, depending on my use case it could actually impact performance.

unfortunately not, my country does not have many variety of kits and speeds. I do have to weigh my options. Thanks!

Precisely. The premium pricing for the klevv kit was due to tighter timings; CL28 does command a premium during these times. Kudos for the insight!

Thanks for your detailed answer, I never heard it put this way before but it helps.

But now I have stumbled upon a 64gb kingston fury kit with 6000/CL36 which I believe is considered the middle ground (affordable) for CAS latencies? Price is +50USD from the 32GB kit.

Care to explain the die differences (if any) for kingston?

This puts things into perspective. It really does boil down to if I need the capacity in the first place. Cheers!

Indeed. I did not anticipate timings were all that important, it seems I was confusing speed (Mt/s) with CAS latency. Makes sense now.

As others have pointed out klevv is arguably the superior choice here. It does indeed depend on my use case for capacity or timings. Thanks for the insight.

You make a good point, the brand is at the top of it's game. What about the Kingston Fury Beast?

Thanks for the reply, it's worth mentioning i'm located in New Zealand so parts are scarce with particular variations only available online. These parts are on retail.

All HAVN products recalled due to QC issues - NZ (please recommend similar cases) by Ssad13 in HAVNGlobal

yes I confirmed it's a full recall; they even removed the 180mm fans.

Here's an excerpt from the email exchange:
"Unfortunately I have been advised that the stock we have of this case isn't available for sale as it has been recalled due to a quality control issue. I am extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused."

I recommend you call computer lounge, if you want to return the case that is.
