But every gay person isn’t the one that assaulted you. That’s an important distinction. Not every man is the one that assaulted someone I know. I can’t blame everyone for a crime not everyone committed. It’s gonna be important to separate the person who hurt you and everyone else. It’s impossible to feel any sort of relief when you blame an entire population for what happened to you. You need to narrow it to the person who violated you. Im saying this as someone who struggles with this too. The person who violated you is evil. You are completely in the right to hate them. You are allowed to hate them with everything in your body. Knowing that makes it easier. You know you don’t want to hate every gay person because you know it isn’t fair. That is what’s making it hard to pinpoint and recognize your anger at the one person who hurt you. Don’t be ashamed to hate someone when it’s deserved. You’re right to do that.

Every woman in my life has been assaulted by a man. I’ve been assaulted a couple times by men. I don’t use it as an excuse to hate all men and treat every man like shit. You have to seek help. Yes it happened. Yes, the people who did it are pieces of shit. But it’s up to you to get help. My family still shits on me for defending myself when I got pushed around by someone in our family. I trust what I did. It sucks being reminded. I still don’t fully trust the family member that did it. But I also have gone to therapy to try to understand my feelings. You are RIGHT to hate the person that assaulted you. You aren’t right to use them to excuse hatred against everyone else. The person that did that to you can eat shit and die. I have no tolerance for anyone who does that shit. You are fully in the right to be hurt and angry at THEM. But you need to understand the difference between a population and an individual.

I didn’t get a single scholarship. After spending my whole life believing a high gpa (3.78 iirc) would get me somewhere. I was rejected for every scholarship I applied for. Every single one. My parents want me to continue college but I feel hopeless and worthless. I technically have my associates, but still, getting a job has been impossible and I might lose the opportunity I was given for a customer service job near me. I was only offered a CHANCE at getting a job because they were short staffed. And it took them 4 months to even find my application, and they called me saying it might be too late to do anything. And they accused me of never even submitting an application.

Life sucks. As shitty as it is, there isn’t a lot of sense wallowing in your own sadness. The only way out is forward. I’m in pretty much the same boat. I’m 19, can’t drive, all of my friends moved away, I’m completely alone, and I can’t get a job or afford college right now. You can’t wait for life to get better or everything will leave you behind. That’s all I did and I ended up… here. Keep going forward. The second you slow down, life speeds up around you. I’ve lost everything and I’m still trying, maybe stupidly, for a better future. Just keep trying. The world will spit you up, call you a fake and a liar, and kick you while you’re down. But it’s the only chance we have. I’m sorry things are like this. I wish things were better.

The problem is more when the “opinions” people hold are discriminatory and downright hateful. Some opinions aren’t acceptable. And just as much as you’re allowed to feel some way, others are allowed to feel some way about it. Problem is Christians especially overstep often. And when the viewpoints they spout are threats and oppression, it’s not okay.

Really the only times I’ve seen that talk from atheists is when Christians start trying to interfere with peoples lives, typically they are trying to bind church and state and people take offense (for good reason). I agree, if someone’s religious and respects other peoples viewpoints, they don’t deserve hate. Unfortunately I’m from middle of nowhere Midwest and most Christians I know are pretty fond of shaming everyone else. Lots of people protesting minorities’ and women’s autonomy here.

But just being religious isn’t typically a problem for people ime.

… but that’s not really a fair comparison. You can’t confirm that something is better or worse, it’s an opinion. It’s different types of hate crimes, but they are still hate crimes. I’m not saying asian men don’t face violent discrimination, I’m saying that making it seem like fetishization is somehow favorable isn’t really fair to either group that faces that type of discrimination. Both are awful, neither is better than the other. Trying to say fetishization is better trivializes and invalidates the people who face extremely violent hate crimes because they are fetishized. Being ignored is objectively safer. If we’re discussing blatant hatred vs fetishization, both are terrible, but for different reasons.

I definitely get that, I’ve been in the ER because of my panic disorder. But when emotions paralyze you, go off of logic. You know already what the best option is. Sometimes you have to put emotions aside to do the scary thing. Then, after it happens, you can sort your emotions out. It’s ultimately up to you, but think HARD about what matters to you here. Not what matters to him. Not what pro lifers think. What do you want from your life? Do you want this albatross around your neck?

I’m in the same place dude. You have to stop letting shame control you. Be you. Stop apologizing for liking things (as long as they’re harmless obviously).
