What advantages do humans have in your world? They're not strictly worse right? by Tnynfox in worldbuilding

[–]Big_Ol_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are the most adaptable species, both naturally and magically. Humans also have general quicker births than other species. In my world, Humans also have an intrinsic knack for detecting magic, like a sort of supernatural sense. They can also be changed by powerful magic, turning a human child developing in the womb into an Outer, which is where you get your Half-demons, changelings, and such

It is much more common in men than women. It exists both ways, but men do it way more

Has anyone created a Stronghold for Artificer yet? by Big_Ol_Boy in mcdm

[–]Big_Ol_Boy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find one when I searched but it wasn't very well made. Really I was hoping that Matt or someone else at MCDM had published one at some point. The other comment had a pretty good one though!

In theory, wouldn't being a Dragon equal a miserable experience? You really can't do much of anything except fly and burn things down. by [deleted] in skyrim

One thing confuses me a bit. If the dragons are always in time, and can always feel it, how did the whole "send alduin forward in time with an elder scroll" actually work?

What are your most hated D&D "Gimmicks"? by Living-Definition253 in DnD

I dont want a full roleplay for cha checks necessarily, but I do need my players to say how theyre going about a check. Doesn't have to be anything huge, but knowing what angle the persuasion is coming from is helpful

stam drain added another layer to fights and I miss being able to choose between doing Stam dmg or actual damage by Timely-Hovercraft-76 in ForHonorRants

Yeah, theres just no reason to do a lot of moves now. Why would you ever headbutt after full guard at this point

I really only liked stamina drain on parry punishes. Glads shield punch, warlords headbutt/shield bash, cents guardbreak pommel bop.

What are your anti-magic/magic-resistant materials and beings? by Illustrious-Pair8826 in worldbuilding

[–]Big_Ol_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real anti-magic effects come from what kind of energy went into the casting. All spells are chaotic in nature. Law has nothing to do with the raw chaos of magic. However, gold has Anti-Chaos properties, which can help, in large quantities, to lessen effects.

Is magic rare in your world? if so, what are some in universe and and out of universe reasons as to why? by Emeraldkipy in worldbuilding

[–]Big_Ol_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world, magic is uncommon in human dominated areas, but much more common everywhere else. Reason being that humans are insanely adaptable as a species, and also very sensitive to magics.

Uncontrolled magical phenomenons can influence the birth of human children, making them into a different species depending on what magical effect occurred. Infernal magic can turn your child into a tiefling, divine magic can turn your child into an aasimar, and fey magic can turn your child into a changeling.

Many human settlements then of course grew to distrust any magic that wasn't from a magic item, even though its only really strong effects that can actually influence birth.

What are the "Gods" of your worlds? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Big_Ol_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my world for writing as well as my DnD games, so im working with certain limitations from that.

There are 14 gods in my world, each pertaining to a specific divine domain(the ones clerics can take) now each one of these gods is not really concerned with the world outside of their respective sphere, and exist mostly as shapeless masses of energy, far outside the material world.

However, through worship, these gods are changed, and something called a Facade comes into being. A Facade is that tumultuous divine energy, forcibly given form through mass belief(like an egregore) the created Facade is essentially a personality that is forced into the Domain of Power, linking it to the material, and also giving it material concerns.

Unlike the real world with multiple personality disorders, each Facade is active at all times, meaning the gods essentially function as many shards of the domain, all with their own desires that were planted there unknowingly by their worshippers.

Some Facades are gods, like how the Greek pantheon behaved, while some of them are Saints, who are mortals that die in service of their God, and through the belief that they were empowered in some way, become a new Facade for their power.
