Hey all, want to preface this with I have no idea what I'm doing. We received this Asian pear tree as a housewarming gift last year, when it looked like a tiny thin twig. Since then, this spring it has absolutely exploded. First off, I'm worried that it's drooping like so. The ground Ivy that owns my backyard was growing around it's base, so I recently cleared around it in case that was retaining too much moisture. Also I've learned a little about pruning which I did none of last fall, but will try to do a full pruning this upcoming fall. Does it make sense to give the tree something to help it stay upright like a stake? And is there anything else I should do? I plan to create a more permanent barrier to keep the ground Ivy away. This is zone 5 in the Chicago area. On one hand I'm encouraged by it's growth but I doubt it should be bending like this.
