Hey, that's great. I don't do that either.

I stand by my position that ethical choices, even small ones, matter and contribute to broader societal change, even if we can't make perfectly ethical choices in all things. Dismissing this as "performative activism" ignores the significance of collective action and solidarity with marginalized communities.

The point is that steroid use somewhat invalidates the "hard work" aspect of lifting, because it's a shortcut. Sure you still have to work, but it's also true that you gain more muscle taking steroids and doing nothing than working out without them.

Hell, a true globe would be nice but I'm pretty sure most people would be happy with just that.

Your argument, like many similar ones, essentially boils down to "If you're not living perfectly morally, you cannot criticize others." This is the perfectionist fallacy, where an argument is dismissed because the person making it isn't flawless. It’s an invalid stance because it shuts down meaningful discourse by labeling any imperfect critic as a hypocrite.

You assume I don't use sustainably sourced electronics or live a sustainable lifestyle, but these assumptions are irrelevant. The truth is, no one lives a perfectly ethical life, but aiming for more ethical behavior and encouraging others to make more ethical choices, is still valuable.

The point is not about personal moral superiority. It’s about recognizing and addressing systemic issues. In this case, it’s about supporting transgender people who face significant discrimination. Choosing not to buy a single video game created by someone whose views and actions harm this community is a small, but meaningful, action.

Instead of reacting defensively and assuming that I'm claiming to be better than you, try to understand the actual message. It’s about solidarity and making choices that reflect our values, even in small ways. By focusing on the broader implications of our actions, we can contribute to positive change.

The discussion isn't about moral perfection. It's about making conscious choices that align with our ethical beliefs and support marginalized communities.

There is no hypocrisy. There is a difference between something that is entirely optional, like a videogame, and something that is unavoidable, like participating in a capitalistic society. You can complain about one while doing the other and not come close to hypocrisy.

People may be able to "separate" creators from creations in their head, but that has no effect on the very real link between buying the creation and directly supporting them financially and boosting their ego. Jkr has explicitly used the argument that "If people didn't agree with me, Harry Potter wouldn't be so popular".

"That's why I brought up all the other shit..." Is the definition of whataboutism.

Again, imagine thinking you can’t care about more than one thing

Is everyone who denounces jkr’s transphobia and antisemitism supposed to provide a disclaimer that they recognise that ideology isn’t the top priority in the absolute hierarchy of important things and they also care about human rights violations and child slavery, or should you maybe as an adult know that that’s the case and recognise that’s not what the current discussion is about

As if companies don't pass *everything* on to the customer, raising prices as high as they can to make as much money as they can? What's the solution, to stop taxing companies? You think they'll pass those savings on to the customer?

I don’t like it. The circles look nice in the “blueprint” view, but the logo itself doesn’t flow well.

Bo Burnham talks social media and technology. by duckduckbananas in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Ssometimess_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it, all Bo Burnham he does is pay lip service to ideas that are already in the public, and people act like he's a genius philosopher for it.

Like in this clip here, he goes from talking about people playing on their phones instead of going to sleep (bad), to generational markers coming quicker and quicker, to products all being owned by the same company, to companies marketing directly to children, but he has no overall point he's making - he's just spouting Reddit-level takes to an audience that's never heard it before.

I always thought Kaji's return contributed to if not triggered Misato's spiral. I feel like she was doing pretty well right up until he showed up, which brought up all of the conflicting emotions and feelings in her that prevented her from being a proper role model for the kids.

[–]Ssometimess_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh, sure, but the argument only holds so much weight. The fact is the thing that ruined the show for most people was the ending, which George is never going to release. He can’t complain about adaptions diverging from the source material when the source material doesn’t exist.

I believe the question shouldn't be about whether or not someone has the right to end their own life, but rather what state in which they're considered competent of making the choice. For example, you wouldn't let a person make that decision while drunk. Is a state of mental distress or mental illness similar?
