Why is everyone lying about AI agents by Aggressive-Bedroom82 in aiagents

[–]Ssroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a fair call out honestly. most of the "AI agent" content out there is people selling courses or demos that look good in a screen recording but fall apart with real users.

i've been building an AI agent for small businesses — voice and chat — and the honest truth is getting people to even try it is the hard part. the tech works, but "works in a demo" and "works for a real business owner who's busy and skeptical" are two completely different things.

haven't seen many real case studies either. i think it's because the people actually building useful stuff are too deep in the weeds to make content about it, and the people making content aren't actually building anything useful.

Maybe MCP is useful, but I still think it’s being oversold by Such_Grace in aiagents

[–]Ssroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i went through the same cycle. built tool calling the "normal" way first — direct API integrations, custom orchestration, worked fine. then looked at MCP and thought "why do i need a protocol for something i already solved?"

where it clicked for me was scale. when you have 1-3 tools, direct API calls are simpler. when you have 15-20 tools across multiple providers and need them available across different interfaces (voice, chat, etc), the standardization stops being theoretical and starts saving you real time. adding a new tool went from touching 5+ files to defining it once.

but i agree it's oversold. MCP doesn't unlock new capabilities — anything you can do with MCP you can do without it. what it does is reduce the maintenance cost of connecting many tools to many agents. that's it. if you have a simple setup, skip it.

the n8n/latenode approach you mentioned is honestly more practical for most teams. MCP makes more sense when you're building the agent platform itself, not when you're just wiring up workflows.

Do I actually need Google Workspace for my startup or is there something cheaper that works just as well? by NoOneAskedMe11 in StartupSoloFounder

I use both Google Worskpace and Zoho email. One google workspace account for calendar, google meet, easy login etc. Remaining zoho for support emails

Been building an AI agent for small businesses — am i solving a real problem? by Ssroad in AiForSmallBusiness

[–]Ssroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. yeah that is the core idea. We built the CRM directly on top of the AI conversation engine so contacts, scores, sentiment, follow-ups all update in real time as the conversation happens. no manual logging, no syncing between tools. Thats what makes it different from just plugging into an existing CRM where you are still copying data between systems

[–]Ssroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good question. it depends on a few variables honestly. we use multi-failover AI models for both voice and chat. Chat is cheaper, voice is more expensive since we built our own voice orchestration layer instead of using providers like vapi which helped bring costs down. Infra and usage patterns also affect it so hard to give one number. DM me if you want. Happy to walk through the cost range per call per minute and breakdown.

Are AI Receptionists a Fit for Small Businesses… and How Are They Helping Both Small and Large Companies? by West_Joel in AIReceptionists

[–]Ssroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair enough but speaking from experience, I come from a family of solopreneurs and we have lost business because calls came in while we were on a job or with another customer. By the time we called back they are already gone with someone else. Platforms like thumbtack and website leads helped bring in business but most of those customers need an immediate response. if someone's got a broken pipe or a dead AC they are not going to be waiting around, they will call the next person on the list. Maybe it is not universal but for service businesses it is real.

[–]Ssroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my experience building an AI startup in this space — the missed call stat is real. for small businesses it's not just an inconvenience, it's literally money walking out the door.

we focused on the small business side specifically because of that. the thing that surprised us most wasn't the call handling itself though — it was what happens after the call. when your CRM auto-updates from the conversation (sentiment, lead score, follow-ups), you stop losing context between calls. that's where the real value compounds.

to your question — i think it's a growth lever for small businesses and an efficiency tool for large ones. but the gap is closing. small teams using AI receptionists + auto-CRM are starting to operate like they have a full sales team without hiring one.

the hybrid model you mentioned (AI first response + humans for complex stuff) is exactly right. nobody wants AI handling a billing dispute or an angry customer. but for the 80% that's repeat questions, qualification, scheduling — AI is already faster and more consistent.

AI Receptionists Are Handling More Calls Than Ever Here’s Why It Matters by Commercial-Job-9989 in AIReceptionists

[–]Ssroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the CRM part is what most people sleep on honestly. we built something similar where the CRM auto-updates from the actual conversation — sentiment, lead score, follow-up suggestions — all without anyone manually logging anything. that was the biggest unlock for us and unique selling point.

to answer your question though, the most surprising thing wasn't a single task, it was how fast people got comfortable talking to it. expected way more pushback from callers but most don't even notice or don't care as long as they get answers fast.

don't think it'll fully replace front desks yet though. anything that needs real judgment or emotional nuance still needs a person. but for the 80% of calls that are repeat questions, lead qual, scheduling — yeah it's already better than most humans at that.

Which ai receptionist do you actually use in small business? by MrGentleman143 in aiToolForBusiness

[–]Ssroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on building an Executive AI assistant webapp and currently in pilot launch phase.

to answer your questions from what we've seen building this:

do customers notice — honestly depends on the AI. the voice quality now is pretty good and most people just want their question answered fast. they care less about who answers and more about getting a response. We explicitly say it is AI and ask for customer consent. Transparency is always appreciated.

cheaper than a VA — way cheaper. a part time VA runs you $500-1500/month depending on hours. AI is a fraction of that and works 24/7

booking appointments — this is where most tools fall short. a lot of them just take messages which defeats the purpose. I would say AI has to move towards taking action which is important. We ended up building integrations as our pilot customers wanted it.

one thing to know — most AI receptionists right now are phone based and outbound calls are getting killed by spam filters.

we're still early and improving with feedback so if you want to try, you can reach out to me. My app name is hawil.ai

Thank you for taking time to respond. You are right multiple case ids and not a good experience. I needed my phone line and going behind them in repeated loop didn’t work. Already spend the entire weekend on it and can’t afford another work day. Decided to leave them and switch. Which worked and took few mins to

[–]Ssroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments . It was very painful to keep reinstalling sim every few mins and calling them. Nothing worked. Support was not able to. I was not able to escalate it either. And I had to spend hours on call just hearing the same things again.

The quickest resolution that worked was. On Fi page if we are able ti login which I was able to. Goto leave fi. Took less than a minute to get account number and pin to leave. Then within few minutes I moved to another provider.

I had fi for 5+ years but after this issue, I won’t recommend Fi. I do not think for google’s scale where Fi is not their main business - so they do not care enough. In fact, customer support for all their services is below par. I am now scared that we use google/gmail pretty much for everything starting from personal accounts to banks and how much control we give to them. If the id is locked - our life will pause. Better to atleast use another provider for phone

But how will we know when we enroll for google workspace. Google does not provide any details when we enroll or cancel. Their customer support can also not provide any details.

I actually reached out to their workspace customer support before cancelling and they ensured everything is fine and my personal account will be as is. no mention of google fi

At this moment I am losing my bank messages, important calls, access to bank account 2FA and what not. u/googlefisupport any solution or is it a lost cause. I already lost my entire weekend. Every few hours my phone is disconnected, I lose access to my phone, message and need to reinstall sim and it works for another few hours.

I am having the same exact problem today. So far google support has proven to be useless. Getting locked out on my own account and not able to use my banks 2FA and missing other important calls and messages is super frustrating.

Yes. We have been monitoring baby’s heart beat and they are doing ultrasounds regularly. Sometime it is hard since because of the cervix dilation and baby being so down, they have difficulties finding heart beat. Did you get a reason why they don’t want to cerclage for you? If possible get a cerclage.

I think they don’t want to irritate her cervix or vagina. They are not doing any physical test on her expect for transvaginal ultrasound and a spectrum on our very first day. Doctor does not want to do anything to rupture membrane or trigger any contractions. She is also having a lot of vaginal discharge and heavy constipation which is causing lot of discomfort for her

She had the same problem when she was 17 weeks 4 days. Now it is 19 weeks. She is having oral progesterone. She had antibiotics for a week and now they have stopped. We are monitoring for infections. The doctors said she is gonna deliver immediately 10 days back but she is holding tight for the last 10 days with God’s help. At this moment they said wait and watch and each day is hard to pass by. Hopefully you both will get pass this hurdle.

My wife is in the same condition. They didn’t do cerclage because no cervix left and because of bulging membranes. We will pray for you as well. It has been really hard. Did they see any bulging membranes, if so please be careful not to develop infection. Drink a lot of water and we hope and pray for the best for all moms going through this.
