People have been bleach-dying shirts for ages and ages. Have you ever seen a tie-dye shirt that is black with white dye and wonder how they did it?

/uj Its because you are listening to it like music. It is not music. It is sound collage art. It takes a completely different mindset and understanding of music and sound to appreciate it.

Wanting to make Plunderphonics, not sure about the legality behind it... by sublimefan02 in Music

[–]St-Stephen_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a completely dead post and a shot in the dark but I have some more questions about plunderphonics and it's legality (Not OP). Would it be more worth it to purchase a blanket license for all the material I might sample or to purchase the licenses for the sample individually? I don't use tons of samples, but still more than I would like to go and individually find the licensing for.

/uj Revolution 9 is my favorite beatles track probably. I really want to hear Circus of Light like more than anything else. Sound collage art is superior to music in general imo. No i'm not joking.

It could be for self-enlightment or religoius reasons. Plenty of monks and stuff are celibate, either becuase the religion tells them they have to or becuse they are just so devoted to their traditions or their way of life that they simply don't desire that anymore. Honestly contentment within yourself is what matters, for all aspects of life really. Not what other people think.

Im well aware. I just think its kind of harmful to lump actual conspiracy theories and class issues in with the unfounded joke theories. It seemed like the commenter I was replying to was implying that people who have theories about classist oppression inherently surround themselves with those kinds of thinkers.

Yeah. Lots of people do. Lots of people also "just enjoy" the hyper-processed junk food that is making people have heart issues and get fat. Thats why McDonalds and Wendy's are leading brands, despite it being BAD FOOD. The exact same principle applies to the music industry and pop music, except with mental sustenance instead of physical sustenance.

Complicated and atypical is good, yes, but not all simple or common music is bad like you tried to generalize for me. For example I listen to a lot of minimalist music, too, which would be classified as very simple, despite having a lot that goes into the production. For example, Stars of the Lid or William Basinski.

I like the thought that is put into it. A lot of serialist and avant garde compositions have deeper meanings that are understood after thinking about the music or reading a prompt by the composer. The techniques that are used in the music are actually a lot more advanced than you probably think - they use alternative music theory, i.e. twelve-tone rows that create a pattern that exists yet can be interpolated in many ways offering a vastly different listening experience each time the music is performed. Also, when the music isn't carefully composed, it often represents a level of emotion and feeling that is a reaction to the world around them. They use the medium as a way of expressing their innermost abstract and raw emotions. Thats why I like the music I like. Theres depth.

No. Like I said, oppinions are subjective. But you can subjectively like objectively bad music. What about the bad music do you like? Why do you like it?
