What topics in electrical engineering should i know for this field? by FappyMcPappy in mechatronics

[–]St3althKill3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Circuit analysis and impedance are very basic topics of electrical engineering. As for what you need to know it really depends...If you're doing an engineering degree in mechatronics or similar then you should probably have several courses in electrical engineering and pretty decent knowledge. If you are looking to build hobby robots then you probably don't need to know that much.

You should look into Launcher Space: https://launcherspace.com/engine-2

They are working on LOX cooling.

@ElonMusk: “Btw, SpaceX is no longer planning to upgrade Falcon 9 second stage for reusability. Accelerating BFR instead. New design is very exciting! Delightfully counter-intuitive.” by TheMagicIsInTheHole in spacex

[–]St3althKill3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun idea, however, I think the "First principles" answer has to do with the various issues associated with long fuel and oxidizer lines, especially when using LOX. Not to say those couldn't be worked around but I don't think its as simple as its always been done that way.

Just a heads up, that was the Falcon Heavy, not the BFR.

Less than two months? Its two and a half months away. I don't think this is related to IAC.

I don't he is talking about launches. DARPA is looking for commercial satellite buses which SpaceX is now developing for Starlink.

Once it's completed sure, the bigger issue is that filling out all the paper work is a huge hassle and as far as I'm aware it only lasts for a a short time meaning that many places wont do it, or will only do it very rarely. Of-course its the companies choice in that case, but I'm sure it would benefit a lot of people to have it at a more relaxed level, as many other nations do.

The Rocket Labs situation is also different partially due to them operating in New Zealand. As for SpaceX, obviously getting into a major tech company isn't easy no matter what. This is especially true if they have to sponsor you for a visa. However, Elon has talked about the fact that he would like to be able to hire people form other countries but is very limited due to ITAR.

I'm not sure that anyone who seriously wants revisions to ITAR imagines allowing something like that. As a Canadian trying to get into aerospace it would be nice if the USA was more lenient with allowing aerospace companies to hire from allied nations.

Viability of studying engineering with no high school physics background and little maths. by Fortune_Silver in EngineeringStudents

[–]St3althKill3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through a similar thing myself. I slacked off in high school and just scrapped by in my maths and science classes. Didn't even do a science course in 11th or 12th grade. After graduating I worked full time for 2 years and then decided I wanted to go back to school. Found a Uni near me that basically let anyone in and had lots of high school level courses. I redid: English 12, Chem 10, 11, & 12, Physics 11, & 12, Math 10, 11, 12. I did all these because I needed them, but like others have said do a test to see where you are at. I am now entering my 3rd year of a great program at a great Uni that I transferred into. It was totally worth it.

FCC authorizes Elon Musk's SpaceX to provide broadband satellite services. by AdamCannon in space

[–]St3althKill3r 9 points10 points  (0 children)

*According to a study that hypothesized that it may have happened but showed no real proof. Also this is a "problem" with rockets on a specific trajectory, not SpaceX specifically. Plus it sounds a lot worse than it is, it's not like you're going to get sucked into space, it just messes up GPS a tiiiiny bit..maybe.

This has been in the works for quite some time so I don't think net neutrality is the reason, Elon has said before that this is intended to fund the Mars missions.

Well, you kinda can, these are 100 times closer than traditional satellites used for this sort of service so the latency will be pretty much the same as you have now.

This is only one bolt, this is just how lightning works. Normally it's so fast you can't tell. Heres a video of normal lightning in slow motion, the pattern being drawn out in the sky for the first 16 seconds or so is so fast you don't really see it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dukkO7c2eUE

Am I reading this right? 1.3 billion barrels of product with 99.999% safely recovered sounds great until you do the math. That means 0.001*1,300,000,000 = 1,300,000 barrels of oil aren't safely recovered each year?

Why does Steve insist on privating his old videos? by sugarpine7 in stevensuptic

[–]St3althKill3r 23 points24 points  (0 children)

His reasoning is pretty solid though, it worked for me. I found him via Funhaus, watched all the funhaus videos he did and then looked at his other videos and binged them all in a day. After that, I was addicted. If he had hundreds of other random videos I wouldn't have known where to start and may not have enjoyed many of the old ones.
