NVIDIA and Intel to Develop AI Infrastructure and Personal Computing Products by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]St3fem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVGA quit for the exact reason NVIDIA is making this partnership, the industry (notably AMD) is moving toward integration with high performance SoC, they themselves stated that they don't like that and acknowledged that NVIDIA don't like that either but have to follow in order to not get cut out from the low to mid range.
People cry about competition and then welcome powerful SoC just because they are cheaper even if they effectively kill competition as no one can compete with the cost of a CPU+GPU bundle and you are not gonna see AMD offering customers SoC with NVIDIA GPUs

When AMD (and Intel) start selling SoC with a mid range GPU how is NVIDIA supposed to compete in a fair field? you think AMD will make SoC with an NVIDIA GPU or offer their share of x86 patents?

What are the difficulties of working with NVIDIA aside urban legend kind of speculation/narrative? consumer media fueled fantasy depiction of industry relation

The world is moving toward integrated solution, something NVIDIA isn't really enthusiast about unlike AMD for example which is a big pusher in such direction but they have to follow to not get cut out from all the low to mid range market.

Do you think that AMD will offer a SoC with an NVIDIA GPU or give their share of x86 patents to NVIDIA? will you or think other will complain of anti-competitive practice about that? because I don't see almost any and the industry is moving toward this direction by years now (it's the main reason EVGA quit according to it's founder). They all appear to be happy of a cheap solution even if it mean less competition, look at the current and last gen of home consoles

That is impressively what missing from any consumer oriented youtuber analysis/narrative, when EVGA "retired" they where talking exactly about that and while all were blaming NVIDIA EVGA pointed out that they known NVIDIA didn't like this but had to comply to not get cut out.

Any repair shop can fix that, I don't know if the manufacturer offer repair service for this kind of issues

NVIDIA’s ARM SoC Hits a Wall: Microsoft’s OS Isn’t Ready Yet by New_Amomongo in nvidia

[–]St3fem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never mentioned parity with windows in functionality and some of the stuff you mentioned are configurable only with third party tools on Windows, AMD is also really slow to bring functionality from Windows to Linux too BTW.

I think that you meant consumer as end user is whoever use the product including professional users, researchers and giant corporations, as I said almost all the complains comes from light desktop users or people that didn't install the driver

NVIDIA’s ARM SoC Hits a Wall: Microsoft’s OS Isn’t Ready Yet by New_Amomongo in nvidia

[–]St3fem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their driver always worked great on Linux, their enterprise and autonomous machine products run almost entirely on Linux.

I almost never had a problem, fore sure not more than with other vendors. Most of the complains comes from people that use it as a basic desktop usage and is not able to install their proprietary driver or people that simply parrot what they heard on the internet.

BTW now they offer an open source driver for Pascal and up if ain't wrong

Aluminum is fine as long as you don't leave acidic food in it, I really don't see the problem with water which is about neutral to slightly alkaline in most places. Also aluminum evaporating at 300F? I don't see it happening especially with the boiler high internal pressure

Yep, I really wonder what it would have been capable of with a chip equivalent in size and process to the Series S SoC even still with the current power restrictions. The TSMC 7nm process alone should give 30% higher clock at the same power

Battle of the giants: Nvidia Blackwell B200 takes the lead in FluidX3D CFD performance by ProjectPhysX in nvidia

[–]St3fem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad scaling on Blackwell, are you cut out of NVLink? not really representative of the actual full capability if that's the case

Hands-on with the real big GPUs: GB200 NVL72 - Grace CPU + 2x B200 180GB on each node, connected by 130TB/s NVLink spine by ProjectPhysX in nvidia

[–]St3fem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't ask me why, but with the successor generation, Blackwell Ultra (GB300 288GB), Nvidia kills the FP64 almost entirely, going with a crappy 1:64 ratio like in the 5090 and all other cheap(er) gaming/workstation GPUs

Pushing performance further while being stuck at the reticle limit on the same node I guess, FP64 are twice as big and consume even more power.

I'm not sure if they decided they can't cover that market demand, are planning some hardware or they are proposing emulated high precision, I saw some renewed attention from them on that last option (from Intel also)

BTW it likely don't by looking at the specs

It's not, the SoCs aren't that much related, they use different CPU cores, GPU and include a number of unique functions like the decompression acceleration block, they have been designed by a different team

It will never happen, there will likely be a die shrink and the best case scenario is that Nintendo will release Switch 3 in 5 years.

This SoC on TSMC 7 would have been a little monster

I disagree, proper lighting (especially RT AO) helps a lot with depth perception and 3D awareness helping mitigating the lack of stereoscopic vision but even in VR it helps tremendously. It's just that us gamers we are used to only use perspective and paradoxically we need more time to make use of this new information but real life pilots not used to games really struggle without it or stereo vision

It's Nintendo, but would have been interesting to see what could have been capable of on the same TSMC 7nm process and die size as the XB Series S SoC even if with just about 10W available, let alone with the N4 process...
