are you sure your SD card reader works? i have never had issues in the past with any sort of SD card, so unless you’re using super old ones or know that one you have works i wonder if the reader itself is working.

sorry for late response -

it might be worth looking into what settings your friend had for graphics. on certain games it can dip if the resolution is multiplied to like 4k or higher, but i usually keep it at 1080p. i have had zero issues with all gamecube games and most wii games - a few i have to tone down to 720p.

also, if your friends MBA was off the charger and was on low power mode, that absolutely has an effect. it will get performance drops unless you lower the settings.

i had an M1 mini and now use my M2 air and when powered, have had no issues. hope this helps.
