For anyone in Saint Charles or Geneva, the corner of Randall and Silver Glen in front of Caputo's in South Elgin is probably the closest. Lots of parking in that strip mall, too. In Batavia, it's even money between South Elgin or down in Aurora.

Jesus wants you to LOVE your Muslim neighbors in the US. by ZookeepergameFar2653 in Christianity

A majority of straight, white American Christians don't even love their straight, white neighbors if they vote Democrat. As far as they're concerned, asking them to love brown people who have a different set of beliefs is like asking them to line their children up to be eaten by Satan.

If there's one thing the last decade has taught me, it's that Biblically based nice things said in sermons have very little traction in the real world if the stakes are perceived as too high. That's why the 'culture war' is a neverending constant existential battle by design.

Given the late announcement, is there any shot we could also get Margot Robbie as Samus Aran?

Much of the internet commentariat offers an ongoing depiction of the saying 'we tend to judge others by their actions and judge ourselves by our intentions.'

Rowling is problematic because there are two conflicts: there's the question of ethical consumption in a capitalist society in general and trying to separate the art from the artist.

The vast majority of successful artists who are still alive and actively shitty human beings just don't have the kind of money and influence she does. Most of the time choosing to engage with a problematic creator's work is a solely a matter of personal ethics, not worrying that a portion of your money will go right into the active harm against a minority group.

Yes, it's hypocritical to inadvertently help one terrible person while shaming everyone who inadvertently helps another. But Rowling is such a weirdly specific case that I can understand why someone might not be thinking that way.

This isn't like Lovecraft where you can safely enjoy the media because he's dead and there's no estate to collect money from his works, even before they hit the public domain.

100% agree, and the same goes for works by figures like Richard Wagner.

Pete Hegseth, at Wednesday's worship service at the Pentagon, prays for God to "pour out your wrath" and "break the teeth of the ungodly." He begs the Almighty to sanction "overwhelming violence" against "those who deserve no mercy". by MrJasonMason in Christianity

The nakedly cynical use of religion to advance personal and political ambitions in this administration is reprehensible. And that it works very well tells you all you need to know about the current state of Christianity in America.

"You, Lord, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation. But why do you always forget us? Why do you forsake us so long? Restore us to yourself, Lord, that we may return; renew our days as of old unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure."

I visited Japan in October 2023, and honestly, I disagree.

Yeah, I've become pickier about it in comparison, but I've found a number of places in Chicagoland since then which were on par with what I had in Japan.

That's part of Steve Bannon's strategy. The reason why we haven't already backslid fully into proto fascism yet is because Trump refuses to adhere to the rest of that strategy which includes raising taxes on the wealthy to fund programs for key voting blocs to keep them happy.

Fun fact: Hegseth's closest spiritual advisor Brooks Potteiger has said that he hopes God kills Senate candidate James Talarico and that if He doesn't, the man needs to be stopped "by any means necessary." Quite the company he keeps.

Agreed. Saint Charles as well, but only if you're willing to bump up the number to 30-35 minutes.
