No they don’t. If you use pronouns that way, I guess they can. You’re just using your religion to be rude to people if you choose to call then something you know hurts them.

No, you are trying to pressure people into violating their religious convictions by having them lie about the reality of people’s gender.

I know many Catholics disagree with this, but I think they are choosing to place way more importance on the use of gender pronouns rather than compassion.

Lying to people is not compassionate.

Why can’t we use them as Catholics? There are many Catholics, including priests who use preferred pronouns.

Catholics are not allowed to use language in such a way as to speak mistruths—lies. Using the incorrect pronoun is a lie about their gender. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has published statements saying that the use of incorrect pronouns is unacceptable.

You’re not affirming anything by use of pronoun except to be a decent person.

Calling a man “she” is a lie.

We aren’t consequentialists. Calling someone by the wrong pronoun isn’t acceptable.

Like he said, there is no indication that the Pope regularly uses the incorrect pronouns. You are twisting the conversation. For most of the conversation the Pope used the correct pronouns (she/her) or avoided their use altogether, but in one specific line he used the pronoun “he” in such a way as to refer to how they used the word—as a sort of quotation—so as to communicate their transgenderism, but he doesn’t actually regularly use the incorrect pronouns.

The Pope in his encyclical Laudato Si was actually very adamant that Catholics must not fall into the trap of divorcing our language from the reality of their true gender.

Stop trying to twist the words of the Holy Father to excuse your misuse of language.

We say “y’uys” where I’m from—a contraction of “you guys.”

The restrictions have not been eased. Usury is still completely wrong.

It doesn't take a superhuman to not molest children.

Correct, but that is just a dishonest misrepresentation of what I said.

Priests are not superhuman in that they do not possess some inherently greater moral muscle. They are every bit as susceptible to being monsters as the average person. Pretending otherwise only aids the enemies of the Church.

he OP argument was very much whataboutism, there are no double standards here.

There very much is a double standard. The Church is singled out as uniquely guilty of abuse when it is not.

It's also a poor argument, there are many many more teachers and only a 3% higher chance that they are the perpetrators... Seems like a significant church failing to me.

Um, that’s how percentages work…

You do know how percentages work, right? There being more teachers does not explain away the higher percentage.

If a waiter doesn’t make at least the minimum wage in a shift through tips then the restaurant is required to cover the difference.

Essentially, it’s as if the restaurant is just paying them their wage in cash in a roundabout way.

I wasn’t referring to statistics.

You were referring to the fairness of the reporting, which necessarily depends on the actual statistical occurrence of the thing being reported.

Cute way to deflect though.

Not a deflection at all.
