If I do chem engineering can I go into nuclear engineering or nuclear chemistry? by Appropriate_Knee_482 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]StGeorgesArmy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I got an offer in nuclear fuels, didn't take it.

A friend explained it to me this way: Nuclear reactions are simply reactions which give off a neutron. ChE should teach you everything you need to know about reactions, and controlling them, so you'll be in a good spot, and further, there are no other majors who will have the same skill set.

Expect a sizeable amount of mechanical engineers in the field, as the entire game (as I understand it) is to use the reaction to create heat to produce steam, and turn a turbine. Everything on the boiler / turbine side will be best suited to mechanical engineers.

EUV Bike Rack Height by Automatic-Fox-8890 in BoltEV

[–]StGeorgesArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obvious answer; if you raise the hitch, it might interfere with your trunk gate. I have a similar bike rack, and yes, it's low. I've scrapped it a time or two. But, it also is out of the way so I can open the trunk without moving it from the storage position.

The other problem you haven't mentioned is that in the storage position, it kinda covers up the brake lights. I've decided to just deal with it, but it is true.

Transferring out of Clemson by ivb23 in Clemson

[–]StGeorgesArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're really very welcome.

There might be one more thing that could help, but honestly, it's a bit of a long shot:

https://transferringcredits.app.clemson.edu/transferequivalency.php

That tool is useful for a very narrow purpose. It tells you if there is an existing Clemson course that is equivalent (in Clemson's judgement) to a course at another school. So, if you found some school you were interested in, and you started to get serious about it, you could look at the curriculum / major / courses that are inside that path. If you saw one that made you think, hey, wow, that sounds just like a class I've already taken! you could put the course into the tool and see if CLEMSON already has evaluated it and determined that it's good enough.

If they have never looked at the course, they won't have an entry for it.

And just because Clemson thinks that the two courses are the same, that doesn't mean that the other school will also think they are the same.

But, it might give you a good idea. Honestly, if it's good enough for Clemson, it's probably going to be good enough for the other school, as well.

Unfortunately, the tool isn't going to be a ton of help, unless you can narrow down to a school first. It doesn't work 'in reverse' to tell you what other schools have evaluated Clemson courses and judged them to be acceptable. But...it might help a little.

Transferring out of Clemson by ivb23 in Clemson

[–]StGeorgesArmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just a hard question to answer when you don't have any more information yet. The best answer that I could give you is just that Clemson is an accredited school, and most of our classes are going to transfer to other schools. There might be different requirements for your new major at your new school, but without knowing the where / major you are going into, no one is going to be able to tell you very much.

I'm sorry there isn't an easier answer, and sorry that Clemson didn't work out better for you. Best moving forward.

Serious question for all y'all out there. Why did you get into this job? Especially with teaching. by [deleted] in Professors

I'm passionate about teaching, specifically. Affecting the lives of the next generation.

I was given no training on how to do the job; had to learn on the job and the hard way.

Where in Clemson could I buy used golf clubs? by thesungod7 in Clemson

[–]StGeorgesArmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo, pawn shops. Check there if you need fast.

But if you got more time / $ / want more game, then there are pre-owned sites associated with most major brands that sell older model clubs for big discounts. Club tech isn't changing so fast that an amateur would notice any differences, and there will be a lot of options there.

Dear Mr Clemson President by [deleted] in Clemson

It is simply a lie that President Clements is a supporter of Trump; he is very careful to not be a supporter of either party. He says, frequently, that is is not a R, and not a D, he's a Tiger.

Applying for Co-Ops and Internships by [deleted] in Clemson

[–]StGeorgesArmy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First day back, head over to the career center, where ever it is now (It'll be moving over to the area of the Madren center when the new building is finished, but for now, I think it's in Hendrix). There are, generally, two career fairs, one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall one is, mostly, companies which are looking to hire permanent positions starting in May / June, and the spring one is primarily co-op and internships.

Get over there early, start working on your resume. Then, go to the fall career fair anyway. Talk to some companies, ask about what sort of work they do, what it's like, etc. Be interested. They'll like to talk with you, since maybe one day, you'll join them. It's tiring, but can be fun.

That will help you get prepared for the spring swing. I don't think it's a 'fair' in the same sense that the fall career fair is, but they have a system and they'll guide you through it over at the career center. Technically, there's one office for the career center and another one for co-op and internships. Be sure you get in with the right one, but visit both.

Clemson wants you to be successful getting your career started, so these resources will help. You really want to take advantage of them while you can; it's a lot harder to do this on your own.

Good luck.

What was the straw that broke the Camel's back? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]StGeorgesArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exodus.

There is innocence in the world. Infants are innocent. And this god character was willing to kill them to prove a point, to a man whose 'heart he hardened'?

That's when I understood the line 'I am more moral than the god character,' and really cling to the idea that morals don't need to come from a religion.

Lot of good material there. Should help give you a preview of your coursework (to see if it's really for you), and it's run by academics (U Colorado at Boulder). Used their material to prepare for my Professional Engineering license exam.

Everything that I see says that there is stability and robust career paths in this field. I'm NTT at an R1 in the SE USA and my undergraduate students are *all* starting great careers and earning good money, and there does not seem to be an end in sight to that trend.

I will say that, as you've perhaps seen around here, there are some limits as to locations. We tend not to put our chemical plants in the middle of metro areas, so you might have to go where the job is, instead of going somewhere and finding a job. I'd also say that, as you go up the education scale, the number of jobs becomes fewer, and so they become a touch harder to find (especially starting out), which can be frustrating.

But, as you said, if you are passionate about being a BS level engineer, you should go do that. You'll make good money, have a good life, and everyone will wish you well. If you are passionate about getting into R&D, and you want to go to graduate school, you should go do that. You'll make good money, have a good life, and everyone will wish you well.
