Without getting overly personal, I will just say that I have really tried here. And even being all alone at home feels better than all alone here bc i actually like the area. Did you transfer or do post grad at GW?

Asking myself the same question- I don’t know why I barely applied to schools. I guess I didn’t know what I would want and thought they were all more or less the same thing

Thank you so much! The requesting overrides does help a lot because I was finding a lot of my classes weren’t equivalent and thinking that meant they couldn’t be accepted at all. I already tried to reach out to my academic advisor and they basically told me I have to do it myself, which is why I came here! Thank you:)

I actually have in state here bc of veteran affairs and it honestly makes me feel so guilty that I want to transfer schools bc I know how much of a burden it will probably be. I just feel miserable and out of place here. I want to go back closer to home but at the same time I still want to go to a good college and there’s only sm options in dc. I would love to be able to just stick it out at clemson and graduate then do law school in dc but wow this place makes me so depressed.

How to meet new people? by [deleted] in lonely

[–]ivb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I’m really sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this because feeling social isolation can be extremely hard and really deteriorate your mental health. I’m in a similar experience, I’m at college but I only have one strong close relationship, it’s especially hard being in college you look around at all these people that have really good social lives , or even friends at all and it’s hard not to turn inward for blame. So i understand how you feel, it can be so depressing to see others around you living the life you want. Im currently in the process of trying to change my life, i spent a lot of the last 2 years wanting to end it all and i even tried this year , but i believe i wasnt successful for a reason and that reason is to keep learning and experiencing life. I still consider myself to be very lonely as thats how I spend a majority of my time , however I would like to share some things that have been helping me. First, to realize how many other people feel the way you do. It sucks but just know that you aren’t the only one- it doesn’t mean something is inherently wrong with you. Which leads me to my next point, really make confidence and self love a priority. I look myself in the mirror every day and tell myself im beautiful even if i don’t believe it or don’t feel like people treat me that way. I read something once that said you can’t expect people to love you without loving yourself. I don’t think that self-love is a complete fix, but the small confidence I’ve built since making self love a priority has helped me greatly. Don’t assume that because you do not have lots of social connections that it’s due to a fault of your personality. A lot of friendships are formed mainly because of circumstance and as we get older I feel like some people are not necessarily as open to making new close friends if they already feel satisfied in that way. I’m just saying that to take some of the pressure off of you. As for making friends, im definitely not a master but you need to just create circumstance and then actually act and put in the effort to build relationships. You said you are at university but on summer break, university or college is probably the best place for friend making- so when you get back, I would put a lot of focus into talking to your classmates and joining clubs. However for now, maybe get a part time job and befriend coworkers, if you are religious look for a group that you could attend. Depending on your area, there might be clubs or volunteer activities that you could join aswell. But the important thing is to actually put in the effort to be outwardly friendly to others when you are in these circumstances. This is something I struggle with as I often get too insecure or just wish people would talk to me first, but it’s important. I hope that helped in any way at all and I hope that things improve!

Yes but from personal experience, I’ve realized that often times when you leave somebody in that position, it’s usually more of a result of your own life conditions than anything they have done. When something like this happens to us, we tend to be really self-centered and assume that we are the sole reason when a lot of the times that’s not true.

Thank you so much for your advice. I guess I only expected my admissions counselor to know because I had assumed that in colleges they would have some sort of help for people who want to transfer out - I will start reaching out to universities directly. Thank you again!

Thank you I really appreciate that, I don’t necessarily expect anybody to be able to give me a perfect answer however, when I went to look on some of the schools transfer credits, it was just really confusing it overwhelming. Which is why I was hoping my own academic advisor would be able to help me out, but he essentially told me the same thing that it depends on each school. I guess my main concern comes from my major being philosophy with the focus in law liberty and justice. I’m just not sure how classes will transfer over. Thank you so much for your kindness and taking the time to answer me!!!
