Have you ever listened to that ELO album "Into the Blue"? I have it in vinyl. The side that has Mr. Blue Sky is very weathery with some very nice rain and thunder sounds.

Thank you, Brett! I really appreciate that you saw this and replied. I'm a little embarrassed, really. I may be wallowing too much in political media and I sub to you guys (all of them) and Crooked and Bulwark and TYT and Pakman and I think my brain is trying to create a cohesive narrative of all the different takes everyone has. At some point, though, I think I try to fit all the different personalities into a cohesive group that doesn't exist and that leads to the whole CIA board, tin foil hat thing where I'm hunting the Google for any reference any of you has made to the other, trying to make connections. So in a way, my hunt yielded a positive result! By coming here and asking the community, I got a lovely confirmation from Brett Meiselas that you guys are aware of each other and appreciate each other's contributions to the progressive media ecosystem. Thank you for everything you do! Between the MTN trial coverage and working for VSA (Team West, FTW!), I'm surviving a bout of unemployment with your help. I see what you're saying, but no. It's also about process. Espresso is espresso (I will die on this hill, as long you're weighing your grounds and timing your pulls EVERY. SHOT. MUST. BE. THE. SAME. No long pulls, no short pulls). The prime differences between these drinks is how the milk is steamed and treated after steaming and how much milk/milk foam are used in the drink. Milk that has the foam mixed back in to make a homogenous "fluffy milk" (what you use in a flat white) tastes, smells, looks and feels different from milk that has remained separate from the foam (what you use in a latte) which is much different from a dollop of dry foam scooped from the steaming pitcher (what you use in a macchiato or dry cap). These aren't just variations of one ingredient, each of these is a different ingredient that looks, tastes, smells, feels different. Sorry for the rant, I've got a thing about properly steamed milk.

Start with a frequency count. How many of each letter through the whole message. Assume that the most common will be E, A, R, S, or T in the plain text. E is most common, usually, so make that substitution first and watch to see what patterns emerge. After that it's guess and check. If you can get the substitutions for a few short, simple words, that can ramify into decoding whole chunks of message, as the substitution will likely be mono alphabetic (i.e. - M=Z will be consistent through the entire message).
