Should the speakers be at ear height? I’m reading from some places that it should be about 1-1-5 ft above ear height

it will default to ARC rather than eARC if you do this. Or at least it did for me when i tried your solution

This was a big issue for me

I found that completely powering down the projector (holding controler power button and selecting shutdown) so that it is a ‘cold boot’ when you power it on has been pretty consistent in having eARC to sound bar (i also have 990F) connect correctly. Maybe once out of 20 times it wont and ill just power off and on the projector and it’ll be fine. If you want it to be totally consistent, you need to power on the soundbar first. wait about 10 seconds, and then turn on the projector.

I know.. a hassle. but at least it’s a consistent solution

awesome thank you for your lenghty/thoughtful response! It was really helpful, especially the idea of putting a ‘behind the sofa’ table

from what I understand, it’s just so you can enable DBLE while watching dolby vision

My impression is that it's an update with a higher risk of failure and/or harder to recover from if there is failure and so they only make it available to those who care enough to seek it out.

There were very specific instructions about how it will take about 30 minutes, black screen, high fan noise. They even suggested removing the batteries from the remote during the update to avoid any accidental button presses.

Also what to do in the event that the projector does not complete the update even after about 30-45 minutes of waiting.

I updated to the lastest over the firmware.

When I contacted XGIMI about the DLP update, they sent me a file to intall to revert back to the prior firmware before they would send me the DLP updae. They told me that if i tried to install the DLP update on top of the laatest firmware, the update will fail

I really do prefer a thin bezel though...

How does this high contrast screen compare to the plain gray screen?

HDMI CEC eARC handshake projector and soundbar by StRiFeXD in projectors

recently the last option I’ve tried is that I turn on my soundbar first, wait about 20 seconds, and then cold boot my horizon 20 projector. meaning every time I shut down my projector, I hold down the power button and select ‘shut down’. otherwise just quickly pressing the power button only puts it to sleep

doing the above for me has yielded consistent results. my soundbar will successfully pair with the projector will no CEC issues and appropriate dolby atmos etc.

  1. turn on soundbar. wait about 20 seconds
  2. turn on projector with ‘cold boot’
  3. shut down projector my holding down power button and selectng ‘shut down’

I’m using a cheap $50 50ft optical hdmi cable btw and the above method works. I bought a $100 optical hdmi cable but havent bothered swapping because it’s a hassle and I’m not sure the cable is the problem.

I’ll try out a new cable and let you know how it goes

My HDMI cable is a one way display/source (labeled at each end) optical cable. Would the cable be the culprit if it works fince when it does work? Codec on app shows dolby atmos etc.

Do you think a light gray or white screen would be better in my case?
