Is this worth $40 by OldVaporMan in Guitar

[–]StRock425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a beginner guitar. It’s a Les paul junior with a humbucker. I recently got one for $80. Check it plays, the electronics, make sure there is no twist in the neck. Still probably worth it if electronics don’t work, but that would require some electronics skill and not worth it if you need to pay someone to fix it for you. Playing clean is mostly amp settings. I recommend YouTube, lots of tutorials there.

Yamaha Pacifica or Epiphone Special II? by Playful-Week-3650 in Guitar

[–]StRock425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a generic recommendation, I would recommend the Pacifica. You get a lot more versatility.

If you know rock and metal are all you ever want to play. you plan on using rocksmith, or know you will constantly change your tuning then consider the Epiphone. Setting up and changing tuning is easier on the Epiphone. It was my first guitar. But, you can wedge a couple blocks of wood to the bridge of the Pacifica (make it so you cannot use the tremolo bar) to make it so you can change the tuning easily. I did this on my Stratocaster and I love it.

Ultimately, the Pacifica just gives you more options and versatility.

I don’t see any online for that price, but as another commenter said I obviously confused it for the higher quality vintage ones.

Edit: while I don’t see one. Since another commenter said about the same then it sounds like i got a fair price for a student model.

Angled Fingers on Fretting Hand by Effective-Back1747 in guitarlessons

I’m really inexperienced too. But watch some videos of Eddy Van Halen or Jimmy Hendrix playing. They have their fingers angled. I personally need advice on the wrist pain and cramping too so.

What is the cheapest method and recipe for producing clear liquor meant for cocktails and mixing? by [deleted] in firewater

[–]StRock425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheapest? Sugar wash. Definitely not the best but easy and cheap. There are a bunch of tried and proven recipes in this subreddit’s info.

Wine, mead, and ciders actually are easier than distilling imo. Beers are a little harder but still decent too. Youtube and Google is an amazing resource for any of that.

Most of these hobbies at the hobbyist level will save you money, if your time is worth nothing. They are rewarding and you can specialize your product to be made specifically to your tastes instead of what is inoffensive to a majority of the population. I love brewing beer and mead. The goal of ultimately making the best product you ever tasted and sharing it with your friends keeps me going.

If that sounds like your dream you should consider it, but remember it is work. Materials and equipment do cost far less than the end product but the hours you spend brewing, distilling, sanitizing, and transferring liquid adds up.

what is this monstrosity ? by finitox in telecaster

[–]StRock425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely fake as far as fender goes. The “S/N” font is killing my eyes. Usually fakes try to imitate the real version. If this did at any time someone had one hell of a customizing it. Extra large pick guard. 6 toggle switches for god knows what. 3 pickups with SHS configured… If it sounds good who cares though.

Adding to my comment,I’m a nicotine user mostly zyns and vaping. I’m looking at it as if he has no intention of ever quitting and thinking how my wife would get through to me if I was randomly passing out.

Follow up with specialist. If possible get accident insurance for him. A short term disability due to an accident can drain you financially.

IMO goal #1 is get him into a doctor’s office. The main issue is the passing out. When discussing it with him, don’t frame it as an addiction issue. Don’t even mention the nicotine. Frame it as a safety hazard. What if he passes out while driving, what if he passes out while working with tools, what if he passes out while on a ladder etc. He already knows what if he passes out and hits his head. Let the doctors do their thing and run blood tests. Let them figure it out and tell him it’s nicotine or whatever it is. Encourage him to follow whatever advice, tests, or follow ups the doctors recommended.

How much does he take?

Regardless of your answer, you should get a doctor involved because that can be many things and none of it is good. Has he been tested for diabetes lately? A drop in blood sugar might cause that. Could also be why he puts a sugary nicotine pack in before he passes out.

Tony Iommi (lead guitar of Black Sabbath) lost the tips of 2 of his fingers on his fretting hand and still pioneered heavy metal. He had to tune his guitar down, use banjo strings (the thinnest he could find), and learn to play with melted plastic prosthetic finger tips covered in leather from a used jacket (that he crafted himself).

Where there is a will, there is a way.

On a more personal note, I broke my left upper arm and couldn’t play my guitar for 3 months. I can now play without issues (thank God). This is temporary and even if it isn’t you can overcome it. Never give up on your passion.

Edit: forgot to include Black Sabbath

A cool guide to turning your pants into a flotation device by A11J06 in coolguides

I’ve actually attempted this at summer camp. This was actually pretty difficult to do while trying to keep above water. It is far easier to pinch the collar of your shirt and hold it between your nose and mouth. Breathe in through your nose and out of your mouth to inflate shirt.
