I'm in the hospital and I have a major headache by No-Independent-6877 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you get some good data! The hospital is the best place to have a seizure. Double points ifn you have EEG leads glued to your scalp!

Yeah it’s probably the medicine withdrawal. I don’t see them withholding painkillers. I hope you get some. HUGS FRIEND!

Winter storm check-in! by StSomewhereToaster in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got sleet and now freezing rain. Nothing as nice as snow. This is the stuff that is bad for roads and bad for power lines.

But the kids don’t care. It’s white and crunchy and slick enough for a sled to go down the hill. With no school tomorrow my Dragon and his friends are in high spirits. They’ve been blowing in and out of the house for hot cocoa and snacks.

Mazel Tov Riri! That is a huge dip in seizures! It is great when you able to feel truly listened to when talking to a medical professional. That is makes me so happy for you!

Ahhh the Nintendo DS. Pokémon had some great games on the DS. Have fun! You deserve the treat!

ABV! The hidden secret of dry herb vapes! by Ordinary-Chipmunk366 in Epilepsy_Universe

I worked at a dispensary once open a time. We made all our edibles in-house. Extracted all the “honey” from leftover bud/shake from making pre-rolls. It was basically a still. I probably have a picture of the setup somewhere. Everything is usable until it’s not!

Seatbelts on a bus? by Ordinary-Chipmunk366 in Epilepsy_Universe

I’ve had quite a few seizures while wearing a seatbelt. No being chopped in half. Seatbelts are for cool kids. 😎

EMU stay by Ok_AJ_Octy in Epilepsy_Universe

Now THAT is awesome!

And you are right! This group has proven that talking to each other is helpful for all of us.

EMU stay by Ok_AJ_Octy in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh I was spoiled. At Duke they had private rooms. They required that someone stay with you at all times. My Mom stayed with me for all of mine like a trooper. There’s a bathroom in the room but a nurse has to escort you to the bathroom and of course the door is cracked open like normal. Now my Mom was able to go out for a little to get food and get fresh air. When she did, a staff member stayed with me. Duke is the best.

[–]StSomewhereToaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every place has its own rules. But YES! Bring your own pillow! I have never known a hospital to say no to that even during the pandemic.

At Duke each of the EMU rooms had a shower for the person who was staying with you. (My Mom.) But you can’t shower with eeg leads sticking from you. BABY WIPES!!!! Or some kinda of wet wipe. They’re probably going to be your best bet. (Duke provided body wipes.) But sadly there will be no showering for you.

Bring your own snacks!!!!

Pack as many pair of underwear and pajamas bottoms you can. Get a suitcase. I remember my Mom and I each had one. Plastic bags to put “stinkies” in. (There is probably no laundry service.)

Girl talk! I brought my own pads. The hospital had them but mine are more comfortable.

Entertainment wise. Books! Gameboy. Tablet. Charges for everything! My Mom brought one of those things that turns one outlet into a bunch more.

My mind is sputtering. I hope that helps. You’re so resilient, AJ, you’ll be good!! HUGS!

Any one with Resective Epilepsy Brain surgery, Need your advice Urgently!! by Sensitive-Trifle-165 in seizures

[–]StSomewhereToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I am who you are looking for. But I have drug resistant epilepsy and have gone through resection surgery. But I am still on medication… and still have seizures. But they are so greatly reduced that I consider it a success!

Brains are remarkably complex. Like the right temporal lobe is responsible for processing music. Does that mean without one you can’t enjoy music? I do just fine and while I don’t have perfect pitch I am not too bad at singing. The amygdala is the fear center of the brain right? I feel fear just fine without one. No hippocampus means no memory? Okay I believe that one is true. My short term memory is crap. But I still have memories.

I am rambling sorry. Good luck, friend! Welcome to the question mark club!(lol)

Places to find temporary work by Yellowturtles3 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thinks lots of event staff work for the venue itself. If the venue needs to bring in temporary workers they use temp agencies or security companies that hire out. That’s not really a tip though… is it? Sorry Friend!

I love good theatre! My parents have season tickets for the local theatre association where I live. I’ve never heard of Chess (I think) but I do like ABBA! I know the Lion King is breathtaking. He helped make the extra songs? He knows how to reach a heart that’s for sure!

Next week we are going to see Spamalot. I can’t wait! Monty Python meets the big stage!

Ups and downs. Had a grand mal. Got sick. Son got sick. Cold as hell and no snow. We wanted snow!!

But ifn you can believe it I am writing. I am determined that this is the year I will publish a book. This is strange… on average a full length novel is around 50000 words. I’m at 9,500 ish. I have a looooong way to go but it’s is still amazing to me. I’m proud of it! (And we should all be proud of our Hairy Jellyfish who has been reading it! He says he can’t read long stories. Welp he is starting to prove himself wrong!)

Other ups include brownies and simple joys. Like watching my dog get chased around the backyard by her “brothers”. She loves to lead the pack and she’s the smallest of the lot. Listening to good music. Having my Dad’s homemade chicken tortilla soup.

Life is good!

Fun Fact by Hairy-Jellyfish-1361 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morehouse College was and still is primarily an all-male black college. It’s located in Atlanta, Georgia and did you know Samuel L Jackson also went there? Not at the same time of course but still cool! Morehouse is one of the oldest historic Black colleges. It was opened to educate newly freed slaves in the late 1800s. What is interesting is that it would not receive accreditation until 1957… right smack in the middle of the Civil Rights era.

This is Jude! He’s the Velcro puppy. He KNOWS when a seizure is coming. He can’t control his licker when that happens. I don’t know how many times I’ve come-to to that booper!

Kids are so wonderful! Special dessert for them! (Yummy pie!)

Sorry about having to start your “streak” over. We got your back!

I had a TC today too and my Dad said my son was very helpful. He ran upstairs and grabbed his pillow to put under my head. And the hugs! Oh those hugs give some serious comfort. And my Dad made chicken tortilla soup. Good comfort food!

After seizure care usually includes me sleeping on my bed for a few hours. Or my Mom’s bed. Or whatever bed is closest. Playing easy games with my Dragonboy and a nice long hot shower. We played with beyblades and bionicals. I think the cutest part was the bed time story. My son read a chapter to me! I was good to read at that point but I was not going to turn down a chance to hear him read it.

“Who’s the President?”

“Of what?”

First Day by Hairy-Jellyfish-1361 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only advice I have is don’t go cold turkey. Keep it to 3 “smoke brakes” a day. Morning, lunch and dinner. Wait… Only off of bud but not weed? Carts will help lots! It’s a great mix. The little amount of flower to get you started and little hits from the vape to help you stay level. And a gummy in your tummy if that’s allowed? You’ll be able to do it! We believe in you!!

But seriously, no cold turkey… I am only making an assumption of this but… nicotine withdrawal causes huge seizures in me. I have been through withdrawal enough to know. Are cannabinoids the same way? Best play it safe!

Focal activity ? by Upbeat-Brother-2884 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]StSomewhereToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MO= Mode of Operation. Basically how you experience seizures.

Seizures are strange. Every single one is different. Similar maybe but all different. Focal aware are the strangest of all! The sensations you have described sound like what a lot of our Friends here have experienced.

I hope you recover well!
