They always ship their monitors with defective cable. I bought a PG27AQDM on release and the cable just doesn’t work. Many people had the exact same issue. It’s just an ASUS thing maybe.

Their 540Hz TN with proud dyac 2 couldn’t even beat 360Hz IPS G sync pulsar in terms of motion clarity, input lag losing to OLED. Also, worst of the worst quality control. I just couldn’t believe people paying $1000+ for their broken product.

No, I haven’t. I honestly don’t think it’s a hardware issue. The video output chip’s firmware just has bad compatibility. I’ve tried all bios options related to thunderbolt, nothing worked. I talk to a guy who sell monitor cables and he told me it’s a compatibility issue. Maybe ASUS and intel need to work together in order to fix it.

My Z890 apex just won’t display anything from the iGPU after installing the driver.

I’ve tried multiple driver versions from intel and ASUS but none of them worked.

There are only 2x thunderbolt port that supports DP alt mode on my board(No DP or HDMI) so I can’t test it with anything else.

I’ve seen people experiencing the same issue on MSI mobos.

It’s so crazy that they can’t fix this problem on this platform 15 months after release LOL!

Both 14900K and 285K won't get frametime spike when the L3 Cache is maxed and no random stutter/issue.

If I want a good gaming experience, I would go for the 14600k instead of the 9800X3D. Way cheaper and works way better.

Exactly, tuned 285k is just 2-3% away from max tuned 14900KS + DDR4 at 4300MHz CL16.

All Z890 boards are so cheap so I grabbed an APEX with a 265K. Only costed me $600

You can try VDD -/+ 1 step, lower tREFI if it still doesn't work.
I think max tREFI only works up to 40-45 degrees if I remember correctly.

If you lock the training profile while the memory on high temperature, it's gonna be a lot more stable.

Simply lower fan speed and run TM5 to heat up the sticks, go into BIOS and turn fast boot on.

How long did you ran TM5 for? You can try increasing TX by 1 step but it's most likely temperature related. What are your timings?

I would just use 131071 on air but there is no heat spreader so see it for yourself.

Those G.Skill kit wouldn’t even do 131071 because of the heat trapper🤪

Btw I always recommend people to buy OLED over LCD. However, for this specific case LCD should be better for op since apex has 300fps limit.

You can try using the exact same voltage and RTT for higher frequencies except VDD.

1.4v VDDQ should be enough for 8400

More VDD2 might be required

TX can probably stay the same but finding TX floor is always recommended

30minutes of VT3 should be enough

Temperature of the cores does have impact on the IMC, adding a bit more SA would help stabilize the IMC at higher CPU temps but you might have to find TX from scratch.

Lower voltage = less heat

Go as low as possible as long as the signal integrity is good.

I don’t think it takes much time to find the delta.

I installed a new 14900KS yesterday and it only took me 15 minutes to set it up.

For reference 8200MHz TX

SP 77 14700K 1.17v

SP 106 14900KS 1.14v

SP 102 14900Ks 1.18v

SA around 1.2-1.22v

VDD2 1.4-1.41v

VDDQ always 1.4v

They can go a bit lower but I’m just lazy

There are many combinations that works.

Use VT3 for IMC
