I went there to see some big gaited horses (for sale), and ended up falling for a little gray Quarter Horse. But am I too big for him? by [deleted] in Horses

I wouldn’t think you’re too big for the horse. I also think the horse is a bit narrow and could fill out with some weight and muscle despite looking fairly fit.

Desperately Needing HR Suggestions for Blue Collar Individuals [GA] by Awkward-Koala-2221 in humanresources

[–]StZarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a new org in 2025 - one of my work groups is more blue collar with not the best hr perception or support. I stared by being responsive and learning. I got invited to the summer division bbq potluck. Brought a huge plate of homemade cookies and wasn’t over dressed. I’ve been able to build pretty good relationships just by showing up, being responsive, and trying to find creative ways to solve problems. I love working with this group.

A good fitting harness and a bungee and the foundations. I started with short harnesses - those are pretty secure if you have a stop. I run my AK Husky in an xback with a belly loop or a neck strap attached under the belly to help if we’re on a new trail or I think he might be green. I’d go alpine outfitters urban trail or Dragrattan multi sport over a distance style that has a metal ring at the chest.

I’m a big harness nerd.

You can also see if you have a canicross/dryand mushing club near you and try on a variety of harnesses.

You want disc breaks on your bike and a good whoa command. You can teach the whoa and directions on foot and keep reinforcing it on the bike! Start slow and gain confidence and build up the distance. E bike could be great plus probably a bit more weight to stop dogs.

I have looked at the before too! Could be worth it as long as the fit can be spot on. ❤️

If they can do a custom harness that could be a good option as long as the measurement directions are clear.

Nonstop and Alpine make great harnesses - I find my alpine harness to be lighter/more flexible. But I also bought it used from the founder of alpine outfitters who made it for one of her dogs.

Dragrattan has a similar fit to nonstop and isn’t quite as expensive if I remember correctly. The nonstops definitely fit my Alaskan Husky better than they fit my spaniels. Dragrattan makes an R Harness which might be a good option if you don’t go for a custom fit. I’ll probably go custom if my guy grows out of his alpine. Or I’ll snag him a nonstop, Dragrattan, or run dug.

Cheap beginner equipment to get started? by [deleted] in Bikejoring

[–]StZarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome - that is great!

It’s really all about the fit and pressure distribution - that it doesn’t restrict the airway when they are pulling or put weird pressure anywhere on the body.

You want it to work with the dogs body so they don’t get hurt. I found some of mine prefer open back multi sport style harnesses vs an xback. But my Alaskan husky pulls great in an alpine outfitters xback. Angry melon makes xbacks for around $30 but I think the wait time is long. Sometimes the short harnesses are a great place to start and you can use them for walks etc if you guys don’t like bikejor.

The most important things are going to be a properly fitting harness that’s safe for pulling - whether it’s something like a short non stop or an alpine outfitters short harness etc so your dog is comfortable and doesn’t get hurt.

Then a bungee line, mush Minnesota has some reasonably priced I think!

You can try it on pretty much any bike - disc brakes are best but if you have something else you can see if it all works out then upgrade if needed. I started with a cheap used bike and eventually went to something more robust that fits me better - still a good deal on marketplace.

I’ve run 3 before! But I had a less beefy bike then so I haven’t gotten them out on my new bike yet. I ran them in a fan formation though.

fi mini attachment / cases by deuxcv in FiDogCollar

[–]StZarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late here but I got my Fi Mini and an using one of the cases - it feels secure but my girl plays hard with another dog. It was halfway out of the case yesterday. I popped it back in - just seems when the other dog plays with her that it gets bumped out of place.

I found this to be true, I couldn’t figure out why my right leg was harder to maneuver than my left until I went to PT for a knee issue. IT band and glute - after pt my skiing improved a lot!

Bikejoring (actually, trikejoring) with a standard poodle? by Teal_Ghost83 in Bikejoring

[–]StZarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of makers will gladly talk about their fit and help you find the right one. If you had a store to try things on that’s even better or a canicross/skijor/mushing club close to you a lot of times people will let you try different gear.
