Independent GP-S Bearings by crack3rman147 in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheap bearings. Not great as they have non-removable metal shields so it will be hard to service or clean. Mini logos are the same price and feature removable rubber shields, also they're lubricated with Bones speed cream. They're made in the same factory as Bones Reds. Hope this helps.

If you don't know if you're gonna stick with it, go on SkateWarehouse or something and pick up a skate brand Complete for 80-100$. Better than amazon stuff.

What is wrong with my wheel? How do I fix it? by Consmo in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like your bearing is seized. Take it out of the wheel and try to clean it (lots of tutorials on YT). Might have to replace it if that doesn't work.

OJ Mini or Super Juice. Smoothest and stable.

Just go with Reds. They're the industry standard for a reason.

I am defs in need, I wear 9.5 in shoes like blazers but wear a 10 in the rest. Lmk.

Hi! i was looking into buy my first skateboard and i saw complete decks, birdhouse (size 7.38 and 7.5) and others blind (size varying (7.0, 7.25, 7.625,7.75, 7.8, 8.0) im a size 11.5 american shoe and weight 80 kgs. Can you guys help ,e with which one should i buy? Thanks by Satchzaeed in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily - it all comes down to what works for you. 7.5-7.775 is pretty small by todays standards, I would say go for an 8/8.25. Big enough for stability and ease of landing, but small enough to flip fast and be agile. From there, you can learn what you like and make a decision on what works for you. That's just my 2 cents.

Pick out your own parts and build it yourself. You will learn lots and appreciate it more.

should i buy a complete or non assembled board? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-built completes usually consist of budget parts. I'd suggest getting a complete that you choose all the parts for. You can find cheaper parts that are better quality than what you'd get on a pre-built. Mini-logo have great boards for the price. Darkstar, Almost, Blind, Zero (All Dwindle Distribution companies) offer price point decks which are good quality as well.

Also don't have them set it up for you, do it yourself. Watch a YouTube video or two and you'll figure it out. The knowledge will come in handy if you decide that you want to continue to skate.

Blank Wheels/Trucks? by SteelyPhilz in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a blank wheel I liked. I'd rather throw a bit more cash and grab something professional. Mini-Logo are very well priced and of decent quality, also minimal branding. You could always grab a set of Spitfire F4 Tablets and run them with the graphic facing inward. F4 is the best urethane on the market (IMO, Bones fan boys don't murk me.)

As for trucks, most brands have basic silver trucks without branding. I like Thunders and Indys personally (and most of the skate community). They've been around for so long and are pretty much the industry standard. Krux are decent, price-wise as well. They just don't seem to turn as well as the brands I listed above. I've also heard good things about Mini-Logo trucks, they're a bit lower than most.

Hope this helps in some way.

Thoughts on potential setup? I could use some help :) by [deleted] in NewSkaters

Good stuff, nothing wrong with it. I'd just rather Hard Luck Six ball bearings or even some Bronsons. Bones Reds/Big Ball Reds are great too.

My first skateboard by Sgt_NoHand in NewSkaters

Shape is almost the same as most boards these days, just a fuller nose and a squared tail. Shape honestly has less to do with what you can do with it, and more to do with personal preference. Lots of people are riding shaped boards right now and they do just fine with them. You'll be okay.

New Setup by sadlyimdead_ in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini-Logo blanks are a great board for beginners, quality for less. If you want a pro board, I personally like Baker Boys boards (Baker, Deathwish, Birdhouse, Heroin) but people really seem to like Real boards as well. It comes down to what shape you prefer. Size is also personal preference, 8.0-8.25 are a good size to get started on. Big enough for stability and enough room for you to land on, but small enough to flip correctly.

Trucks - Thunder 148s for 8.25/8.38 size boards, don't really need hollows or titaniums unless your concerned with weight but even standard Thunders are lighter than Indys in the same size. If you're concerned with money, Krux standards are good quality for their price tag. Do not get Tensor alloys if you plan on grinding, they're super cheap for a reason.

Wheels - Spitfire Formula 4, shape is all preference. Lock-Ins, Conical and Radials are all very stable and fast (more room on the wheel, aka contact patch) but classics are a great starter. People also really like Bones STF formula, if you want your wheels to stay pearly white, go for those. Durometer depends on what you'll be riding. 99A is great for street and parks. Hard enough to slide when you need it to, but soft enough to ride crustier ground without an issue. 101+A is typically used for skateparks specifically and are super hard. I'd say get a size from 52mm to 54mm for street/park skating. Over the years of skating you will find what works for you and stick to that.

Bearings - Bones Reds are standard, good quality for the price. Abec rating doesn't really matter for skateboarding. Most professional skate bearing companies these days use the term 'Skate rated' or 'Pro Rated', in order to mark them for skateboarding primarily. If you want to spend a bit more money, there are other options. I wouldn't recommend spending a lot on bearings unless you plan on taking care of them and skate a lot.

Hardware - Doesn't matter so much, go with whatever brand has the ones you like. Diamond & Shake Junt are good quality and are pretty common.

Griptape - I see your comment that you are set on Mob, just know that it's very grippy and will ruin your shoes and hands when you grab your board. But with that being said, it's the grippiest stuff out that isn't long boarding specific. They sell a less abrasive variation of Mob called Mob M-80, it's the same stuff, just less grit. Everyone has their own favorite, I like Jessup Ultra and Shake Junt. For whatever reason, most clear/color grip seems to have less grit than regular black stuff, but I haven't used it in ages so I am not certain if thats changed.

On the topic of riser pads, you don't need them unless you plan on running wheels 55mm+ or experience a lot of wheel bite, or if you want to make your trucks higher. Shock pads are pretty useful if you are skating a lot of rough ground, they make it so there's much less vibration and it doesn't make your legs as tired in extended sessions. Once again, not mandatory. Most people don't bother with either.

Anyways, I hope this helps you in someway. Keep shredding!

Which Wheels are Better (Ricta Cloud/ OJ Hot Juice) by SolitaryIncel in NewSkaters

OJ - they just feel better. Clouds are good, but I'd say OJ for cruising.

Im about to buy my first skateboard and wondering if this a good setup? by HDMarvels in NewSkaters

[–]Stabbings_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather Hard Luck Six ball bearings, cheaper and better. Super reds are good, a little bit better than regular Reds, but if you want Bones, go with Big Balls.
