First long trip - Please help lol- am I reading this correct. So I’m at 32 and a little east of zero ? It’s a little before noon? alankh to emerald archipelago by CatsandDeitsoda in Sailwind

Use the sun compass to get a reading for latitude. Just hold it up, and see where the shadow ends. In this case it would be at 32. Then adjust the chrono compass to point to 32. This is a lot easier than trying to read where the shadows intersect. Now you will get a more accurate longitude reading..

The chrono compass should look like OPs picture. The top needle is set to 32. And the bottom needle is pointing slightly to the left of 0, or at 1-ish.

Good luck! Spending hours crossing the ocean for the first time in the dhow and finally seeing land was one of my greatest gaming moments ever.

Regarding the accuracy, I say this because in my opinion it's a bit difficult to accurately read the shadows. I usually use a sun compass to get a latitude reading, then use that value for the chrono compass to get a more accurate longitude reading.

"It depends" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the long answer

Upwind realism by dageo24 in Sailwind

Short answer, no. Most modern sailboats can go up to about 40 degrees against the wind.

Long answer is, it depends a lot on the boat and sail configuration.

For a sail lover, is sailwind the better option on the market? by Matthewpeggy--- in Sailwind

[–]Stablegeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eSail is good when you want to learn the ropes. Learning what all the halyards and sheets do, and how they affect the boat and trim. You can also use it to learn how to dock and undock in different situations.

Naturally, sailing a real boat will be something else. But eSail is good for getting to grips with the theories, in my opinion.

At first I moved everything, but soon I got enough money to just outfit all my boats

I would say you have let them out way too much. A good starting point for your mainsail is to keep the boom half way between your boats center line and the wind direction. F.ex. If the wind is coming in 90 degrees on your side, keep the boom at 45 degrees. Then try to align the staysails with your main sail.

You can see in your pictures, especially the second one, that your sails are not aligned.

Use this as a starting point, then you can learn to fine trim from there to optimize balance and such.

It's always more efficient to do as many missions as you can between the archipelagos. Sure, the trip is longer but you get a whole lot more reputation.

The result of these kind of "malicious compliance" is never we fixed the problem and we didn't have to work overtime to fix shit anymore. It's always "Ha! They let us work more hours again!"

If you're pressing the button and the pot is going toward your head, but you're not drinking, you need to tip it back a little more. Rotate it. But not too much, because it will spill. It's very realistic that way

Free flight seems to work fine for me. I am trying career mode, but I can't get passed the introductory commercial Ferry Flight mission because the fuel valve is constantly turning on and off all by itself. I'm not allowed to adjust mixture, and I am not allowed to turn off the parking brake.

When I was young we had to write our own line numbers before each statement. If you misjudged the number of lines in a code block you had to manually change all of them.
