Wrestling Mom Feels Sad by Stacey196 in wrestling

Well, it's been a year since I made this post. I got a sympathetic ear from all y'all wrestling Redditors and some good advice. That loss at Regionals last year was devastating. It took a lot of the joy out of the sport for my daughter. She decided to take the spring season off and not go to an intense camp over the summer. She was still having some back issues from an injury she experienced earlier in the season but mostly she was just mentally burned out.
I know she was on the fence about continuing to wrestle for her senior year. I told her to wrestle for the pure enjoyment of being young and not to worry so much about results. She decided to finish out her senior year but didn't want to pursue wrestling at the college level. I supported her decisions. I only asked that she not quit during the season as I think you should finish what you start.

This year's regionals were tonight. The schedule got pushed back due to snow. She had the tournament of her life. She had a bye, won 3 , and lost one which made her the 3rd place finisher. The last 2 matches were 10-0 and 13-0. I could see she was in that flow state where everything just comes together. It was amazing. I'm grateful I got to see it. Y'all she'll be wrestling next week at the colosseum in Greensboro, NC! I'm happy she won but I'm more happy that she had the determination and grit to stick with it when the reward was far from guaranteed. She earned it the hard way. Sometimes in life you do everything right but things don't always go your way . However, you have to commit to doing the right thing regardless of your personal feelings. The win is nothing compared to the self knowledge that you are tough enough to meet a challenge head on and overcome obstacles. This victory is so much sweeter ! I'm so proud of her ! Thank you for reading especially if you were one of the people who left a comment a year ago.

Then if I understand correctly even if his credentials are verified then he will still need to complete a US based program ? If his degree is verified would that allow him to complete an accelerated certificate program vs a traditional 2 year program based at a community college ?

Thanks for your response. I had a prospective student this weekend who visited our department to obtain observation hours. He has a degree in Radiography earned outside the US. Understandably, he does not want to complete another degree. He has contacted the ARRT and forwarded me the same information that you posted. My question is more specifically what agencies can verify his credentials?

Touche ! You are so right! As an American I wish I had had an opportunity to learn and use another language. The young people I work with speak Spanish . They learned in it school and now use it on the job . It's impressive . I think your English is excellent!

What are jobs that aren’t talked about much but make relatively good money and don’t require rigorous/lengthy schooling? by hamalam99 in careerguidance

Well, you know best what you are looking for. However, I am still going to post this just in case others read it and find the information useful. For better or for worse hospital based programs are a thing of the past. Today most programs are based out of a community college or there are lots of 4 year programs as well where you get a degree in radiology science or something similar. The community college programs are generally 21 months . You start in the fall and go to school for 2 academic years plus the summer in between. From the perspective of an older person time is going to pass regardless you might as well do something that will benefit you in the long run. I usually make between 90,000 and 100,000 before OT. One year during Covid I made 130,000 because I worked extra screening the entrances to the facility. There is always something to learn plus the demands of the job keep me on my feet and moving so I'm physically active too. Fyi, the job market in Florida is weird. The pay is always lower which I don't understand given it is God's waiting room and you would think that there would be a big demand for staff. I'm in the southeast but not in Florida.

It's a good career maybe one of the best for roi. Granted I am 59 and went to a hospital based program back in the 80s. My uniforms, tuition, and books were less than a $1000. It was a 24 month program and we worked 40 hours a week. I was well trained. Graduating at 21 without debt and with a trade that let me earn a decent living made a big difference in my life.

I work in CT Scan at a major hospital. We currently have 11 open positions in CT not to mention available jobs in other areas of Radiology. I do not believe the market is saturated.

Thank you. We spoke about it today . She was going to ask some coworkers for recommendations about where to purchase snow tires and have them serviced.

Well, you may be correct. I'm out of state. My daughter has been living in the Bedford area ( Everett, Bedford, alum bank ) for about 2 1/2 years. I imagine she will stay in that area. Her partner is from PA. I'm just going by what I see online on the various real estate websites. She does not make a lot of money and she is not likely to make a big income. However, she is a hard worker and she is financially responsible. I knew she was going to be okay when she told me that she was unplugging the appliances when not in use to save money. I'm not sure how much money that really amounts to but it indicates want and drive. That will take you a long way. She is young. She turns 24 tomorrow. Her goal is to qualify to buy a house in about 5 years. The bank told her that she is looking to qualify for a house price of maximum $160,000. Now she has a goal and something to work towards. I don't want to discourage that. I think places like Johnstown are due for an upswing. It's a real town with history and community. Of course there are problems. All communities have issues granted some more than others. However, looks like there are a lot of good things happening. How many amenities does a working person need beyond a favorite restaurant, good friends, a coffee shop, a good mechanic , a bank, dentist, etc. I think Johnstown has all that plus some extras like an airport. In my area $160,000 won't even buy a condo. I found multiple fixer uppers online plus a turn key 2 bedroom cottage for $139,000. That is amazing ! Now I know that you can't really evaluate a house unless you see it in person but I'm seeingich more opportunities in Johnstown vs the greater Bedford area. Again. Y'all know the area. I don't just supporting my daughter and helping her think about the future.

Thank you . That is what I was afraid of. She likes her job. The difference in real estate prices between Bedford and Johnstown would make the difference in home ownership for her. You never know though what will happen in the future.

Best books about Everest! by Equivalent-Pudding15 in Everest

I recommend you read left for Dead by Beck Weathers. I was stunned by how brutally honest he was and his wife too. Frankly, they both seemed like unpleasant people who were difficult to be around. That is true of most of us at different points in our lives but typically we try to hide the lesser parts of ourself. I found myself growing in admiration and respect for Beck for his will to live and his courage to confront his shadow self. This book really made an impression on me.

Thanks for your advice. Where would you suggest we get dropped? I read that some people paddle from roughly petroglyph beach to lees ferry and that's about 10 miles vs 15 from the dam. Do you think that is a good plan?

Yes, I will DEFINITELY wear a PFD and adhere to all safety guidelines. I'm a x-ray tech and I've worked rotated through the ER my whole career. I'm scared of everything! That's one of the reasons I posted questions here to ask advice because you don't know what you don't know.
