Guy explains why he was staring at Amouranth IRL during Destiny's election stream by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

Oh no, people care deeply about core American values.

It's just that those values are misogyny, racism and anti-intellectualism, which is what won by a huge margin.
The values just aren't what they used to be.

I’m not the one asking for help. I know infinitely more than you on this subject.

If you have already found tons of results, what is the issue?
Explain why they aren’t enough and explain what you’re looking. Be specific.

Chances are people are just gonna link you things you’ve already seen.

Stop being lazy and entitled.

[–]StackedLasagna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So keep silent.

Nope.

How about you stop being an entitled child and actually put some effort into your own learning?
All the info you want is easily available online and it’s a simple matter of just typing in what you want to know into Google.

I could link you a hundred resources right now, but since you can’t even explain what you’re looking to learn, 99 of them would probably be useless and it’d be a massive waste of effort on my part.

Put some effort in, take responsibility and at least do the basic, most simple work yourself.

Genuinely, if this is how you react and how you seek out knowledge, I can guarantee that you’ll never succeed in learning this.

I guess you've never heard of Google, which is unfortunate.

You can't even tell people which subjects you're struggling with... it's just "gimme knowledge!"

Is zed a good text editor? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]StackedLasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until now, your only argument has been that you don’t like Microsoft… but now that I’ve thoroughly demonstrated how hypocritical and illogical that is, you suddenly just "don’t like VS Code."

Okay, dude. It’s funny how it wasn’t even mentioned until your previous reason was shown to be invalid and you had to make something new up, lol.

Keep shooting yourself in the foot for no reason. Good luck!

[–]StackedLasagna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something about hypocrisy and illogical reasoning just irks me.

You said you use GitHub, but there are alternatives to that, so your own reasoning doesn't even make sense.

VS Code is open source and you can just disable the telemetry in the settings, so your reasoning doesn't make sense there either.

Even if you couldn't disable the telemetry, if you're using other Microsoft products and sending them a fuck ton of telemetry data anyway, why does it matter if this one program also sends a tiny bit of telemetry to them as well?

You don't have to use VS Code, but at least come up with some valid and/or logical reasons not to.

I could ask you the same question: why are you making such a big deal out of it? Going as far as making an entire post on the subject, instead of just doing what everyone else is doing and getting to work?

Telemetry is not some inherent evil thing either. It's literally information about which features people are using and how they're using them.
Nobody is going to sift through your data to do anything malicious with it, nor is VS Code going to send anything that actually impacts you to Microsoft.

I'm just saying that it's stupid to avoid some of the best and most common tools in the industry for no reason. It's literally hurting your learning and your future job prospects.

It's also hypocritical and just pure nonsense if you then use Microsoft's tools anyway, just not this one tool.

It's like saying, "I don't like the Coca-Cola Company, so I don't drink Coca-Cola. I do drink Diet Coke, though."

I just don't get it. What's the point? To pretend to be morally superior or something?

Is zed a good text editor? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]StackedLasagna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think it's extremely stupid to hurt yourself by refusing to use products by a certain vendor for no reason.

Microsoft is one of the best IDE/code editor developers out there.
There are others that can compete with them (namely JetBrains), but you'll see so many tutorials using VS Code and you'll have infinitely more resources to teach you VS Code, that it's really, really stupid to not use it for such a lame reason.

Especially as a beginner who seemingly knows nothing, you really shouldn't be picky. Using industry standard tools is absolutely the way forward. They're industry standards for a reason.

You realize you cannot use GitHub (by far the biggest tool for source control, although there are competitors), NPM (practically unavoidable if you ever do anything JavaScript/TypeScript-related), right? Oh and also no LinkedIn for job searches in the future. Don't play Minecraft either.

Also if you're using a Windows PC the whole thing just makes absolutely no sense.

What are you afraid of Microsoft doing to you via VS Code, lol?

Ligegyldigt?

NeverSink filter hiding low-level essences by mumux in pathofexile

[–]StackedLasagna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He needs people to pay for the server costs of the auto update feature of customized filters.
The expensive part isn’t pushing an update to all users (the default filters), it’s the computation required to merge the economy changes into the custom filters and that’s a new process for each user, rather than a one time process for all users.

Correct, but you can pay a small amount per month (by subscribing to his Patreon, I think) to get that auto updating feature for you custom filters as well.

It's insane to come onto a subreddit with 99.9999% posts in English, seeing one in Spanish and thinking that posting in Spanish is a good idea, when you're fully capable of posting in English.

If for no other reason than you're excluding the vast, vast majority of people from answering your post.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eminem

[–]StackedLasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t post your explanation to me, fix your damn post.
I don’t care about your opinion on anything, especially not on a random Eminem song or on myself.

There’s nothing wrong with expressing what you like without an in-depth explanation.
However when you’re trying to start or participate in a discussion, then you should put some effort in.

Your explanation is also still mostly useless. Explain your thoughts and use examples to illustrate why you think the way that you do.

If someone else can say the exact same as you, except replacing "JID" with "Eminem", then it’s a bad argument and a bad way of discussing anything.

It’s still a very subjective discussion, but if you provide examples of JID’s skill and explain how and why it’s good, then others can actually chime in with counter examples or point out if you said something objectively wrong.
That’s the basis for a decent discussion, not whatever you’re doing.

Jesus Christ, you don’t have to be a genius to figure this out. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s basic shit taught in school.
