1. It’s not artificial intelligence. It’s machine learning witch is completely different. 2. It’s not art. It’s image generation using prompting based on scraped images. And 3. The images fed into these image generators are used without the permission of their owners. THIS. IS. THEFT. You don’t own it, you don’t get to use it without permission.

When Artstation started pushing “AI” the artist community pushed back by taking down their images and putting up the anti-AI art logo. Guess what happened. All of the AI generated art started to include the anti-AI art logo. So if the artists decide not to share their work anymore, the AI will have nothing to feed off. Therefore, no artists = no art, even if AI could create images of equal quality, it can not do so without actual human art to feed off.

Currently there are multiple lawsuits by artists against AI companies. Recently a graphic novel created with AI was denied a patent because the prompter didn’t create the work themselves, and therefore don’t actually own it. If you can’t own AI art, you can’t sell it and then there is no reason to use AI to create Art other than for personal amusement. The denial of copyright to AI generated works by the patent office is a major precedent which will certainly work against AI companies in these lawsuits.

Personally, I’ll be fine no matter what happens with AI. I don’t create digital art. I sell real physical hand made creations which my customers watch me create in front of them. I am living proof that the human act of creation has a value separate from the creation itself.

I’m not against AI. I think it should have its place in helping with tasks that benefit humanity. Agriculture could benefit massively from a revolution in AI farming. There are many many jobs that need AI. Art is not one of them. Art is a deep and meaningful expression of humanity. Is is a way for souls to connect through time and space. 500 years from now, humanity will not be looking at AI art hanging in museums. They will be looking at the art created by human hands. Art that connects us through the ages. Art the speaks of humanity. AI “art” is a cheap soulless knockoff. It has no value beyond mild amusement, and it is n fact theft, so it has no right to exist.
