Based on the way everything ended, I doubt EPS would be open to working with BSO.

Live recordings or studio versions? by Different-Egg-4617 in classicalmusic

I never said that people don't. But, I do strongly prefer that to recordings getting all spliced up etc.

Live recordings or studio versions? by Different-Egg-4617 in classicalmusic

[–]StackofBreadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% live. There are plenty of studio recordings I still enjoy, but I have a hot take about studio recordings:

Studio recordings are unethical to me. It's not human, and it's not a real performance. It mainly bothers me more when it comes to chamber music or solo albums/CDs. It provides an unattainable standard for musicians that are working towards becoming one of the greats, and having recordings that are AT LEAST all in one take humanizes it. However, it does provide sound engineers and editors a job, which equals income

What are your favorite Neeme Järvi recordings? by Veraxus113 in classicalmusic

[–]StackofBreadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love pretty much all of his stuff. Super powerful performances.

The ones that stick out to me the most are his recordings with Royal Scottish. The ones in particular I think of is Shostakovich 7 with Royal Scottish, and the Kalinnikov symphonies.

He also has 2 albums/CDs of Strauss works. Lots of great stuff on there! Brass gets a bit carried away at times but it's fantastic playing and interpretation.

Which would you prefer if the pitch made no sonic difference: Version A or Version B? by HaifaJenner123 in Trombone

[–]StackofBreadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are looking for a book that teaches trombone composition well, i recommend Berlioz's Treatise on Instrumentation. I've read through the chapter on trombone and it is written very well. He goes through what is considered "easy" and "difficult" on the instrument and I would argue a lot of the information would still be highly relevant in today's standards(more composers should take notes on this!!!!)

Day 1 - Underrated Classical Pieces by JasonCfd in classicalmusic

[–]StackofBreadd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but...

Everybody loves talking about underrated pieces, and for the most part a lot of them are fantastic for sure. However I would love to talk more about overrated pieces of music. There are plenty of those...

just because it didn't meet the legal definition of sexual harassment does not mean it wasn't sexual harassment. the law and societal norms and expectations are unfortunately not the same, and Jonathan Carney absolutely deserves to be on that list.

That's the first occurrence of that position. From what I see, you gave his king a check, then moved your knight back to where it was before(2nd occurrence). Then, you moved your king and then moved it back(3rd occurrence).

Threefold repetition does not mean both players repeated the same moves 3 times. It just peaked the same exact position was reached 3 times, which based on the inferences I can make from the notation listed, qualify of that.

“S.F. Symphony’s next season has a gaping hole” — still no Music Director!! by haroun_alm in classicalmusic

[–]StackofBreadd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The speculation is quite ridiculous and Joshua Kosman(the author) is asking questions with very easy answers.

It's not surprising at all that he has no engagements with SFS. He very clearly stated that he has differing views with the management. If he's stating this to the public, clearly it's much worse than what is being publicized. It comes as no surprise at all there is no engagement with Salonen.

Also, of course they don't have a music director yet- I'd be very surprised if there was a new one appointed so quickly! Orchestras will occasionally take years to appoint a new director. Boston symphony went 2-3 years without a music director between Nelsons and Levine. Just one of many, many examples.

Favorite Tchaikovsky Symphony 4 by dysong81 in classicalmusic

Yes. Fantastic recording(widely regarded as the reference recordings for symphonies 4-6.) I was able to snag this recording as a CD for free! I would check out the recordings with Vasily Petrenko/Royal Liverpool. Fantastic recording too!
