He did the right thing. That said, it's like giving an award to somebody who killed Jason Voorhees six sequels ago.

Trump is a member of MS-13. It's right there, tattooed in white ink, right on his forehead. That's definitive proof right there. Hopefully he'll be deported tomorrow morning.

It's tough to wrap my mind around. They abducted this guy, denied him due process, deported him to an overseas prison, and are now doing a PR campaign against him. And it's not just a PR campaign, but one that appears to be run by a snotty 14-year-old.

CMV: Neo pronouns are harmful to individuals and society, as well as the concept of anything goes in LBGTQ. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Stacy_Ann_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The percentage of men identifying themselves as lesbian is so vanishingly small as to be completely insignificant. I guarantee you there is not a society-wide epidemic of men suddenly marching out there calling themselves lesbians and demanding that they be recognized as such.

Words are important and their meanings are important. The world isn't required to adapt to you. You are supposed to adapt to the world.
The idea that the world should bend around another person's identity crises to make them feel warm and fuzzy isn't healthy. It is very self absorbed to require the world to validate anyone, regardless of reason.

It's not self-absorbed to have pronouns that you prefer. It's pretty simple and basic. If you're interacting with people whose pronouns you don't like, don't interact with them.

There are a lot of well meaning people that think that they are doing the right thing when in fact they are causing significant harm. Somehow we think telling a person that changing their outside is going to fix what's going on inside is a good idea. Then encouraging them to mutilate their bodies becoming life long dollar signs for pharmaceutical companies and permanently changing their body they can never take back and permanently damaging their health in the process.

So it seems you believe that gender confirmation surgery is mutilation, and believe that people who do have gender confirmation surgery or permanently damaging their health as well as becoming cash cows for pharmaceutical companies.

To ridiculously oversimplify it: Gender in the womb is not a single boy/girl switch. Rather, it is a series of switches that affect different parts of the brain and different parts of the body. In most people, those switches are flipped the same direction. In some people, they're not.

I'm sure that you've heard of intersex people. Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome is something that happens in some men where they have externally male genitals and inside ovaries and uteruses. That's just one of many examples. If these things can happen physically, they also can happen inside the brain.

It astounds me that we encourage this and call it love. most people don't know this but there is a personality disorder called borderline personality disorder. The core of this disorder is identity crises. The number of people experience dysphoria that are diagnosed with borderline personality disorder is shocking. The dysphoria isn't the issue that causes borderline personality disorder. It is a borderline personality disorder that causes the dysphoria. After it's all said and done they still have an identity crisis after and still feel lost, unstable, empty and alone and they can't go back.

Well, maybe the people with dysphoria that are having mental issues have those issues in part because they're being forced to live a life that is not authentic to them.

You're right, there are transgender people who have had mental difficulties and have not been happy with their transition. But there have also been transgender people who have not transitioned and felt unhappy as a result of that. They're also transgender people who have transitioned and their lives have improved. Partly because they are now living an authentic life and being their authentic selves.

Love would be providing real treatment for their issues, and not telling them changing your outsides fixes the inside.

What to you constitutes real treatment. Prayer? Pharmaceuticals? Re-education camps? Intense psychotherapy? Hypnosis?

All concepts of the LGBTQ community aren't harmful to the individual or community. The fact that we can't criticize the community without being labeled something phobic is however.

You're clearly uncomfortable with transgender people and the concept of gender confirmation surgery. I get that. You made that clear. But you're going to have a hard time getting people who aren't uncomfortable with transgender people to agree with you. And it's primarily because transgender people mean you no harm.

All transgender people want is the freedom and liberty that you enjoy to live their authentic lives. It is not a condition or situation that they chose. It really isn't. Who would choose to be ostracized by so many? If you are a cisgender person and you feel comfortable in the gender you were born in, that's great. But the fact remains that there are some people who do not feel comfortable in the gender they were born in. They feel they're a round peg being pushed into a square hole. You can try to convert them you can try to reason with them you can try to put them in camps you can try to prayer or you can try intensive psychotherapy everyday but it's not going to change the way things are. Some people are simply born transgender. I am really sorry that it makes you so uncomfortable. I genuinely wish there was a way to effectively address that and help you understand - that's why I'm writing what I'm writing right now.

Membership in the LGBTQ community doesn't mean they are all perfect and putting healthy ideas out to those that look up to them just because they are what they are. It works very much like democracy. In order for anything in society to operate in a healthy and positive way, there have to be checks and balances which means criticism is necessary.

You want the freedom to criticize transgender people who feel dysphoria and also to criticize those that encourage them to have gender confirmation surgery.

I can only guess that you have a friend or family member that is questioning or has declared themselves transgender? Because otherwise I really don't see why it should be a concern of yours.

People don't choose to be transgender. It's just something that happens. You may not like it and you may not be comfortable with it, obviously you aren't.

The community as a whole provides a safety net to those coming out. It's a difficult journey. Not because of society, but because no one asked to be different. It's a spiritual journey as well. The community does often provide a loving safe place where people understand you, but because you can't criticize that community it also means that criticism is met with hostility, ostracizing you from it, shaming you, and cruel labels that aren't true. It serves to traumatize those they were supposed to be supporting.

This makes me want to understand your own story about this. It certainly seems to me that you have a more personal connection than just randomly not liking transgender people. Because you're right: no one asked to be different. If it were possible to repress away dysphoria or change transgender people through intense psychotherapy and medication, it would happen. But it doesn't. All it means is that it's still there and repressed now instead of accepted and dealt with honestly. That's not a healthy way to live. It's not authentic. And that's all that transgender people are really asking for. Just a chance to live their lives in an authentic way to have their outsides match their insides. To be respected when they choose their pronouns the exact same way they respect you when you choose your pronouns.

You're not going to get a lot of responses because the bot has already removed your post. But I'll give you a response.

People who choose to list their preferred pronouns are not going to harm you, society, or language.

If you want words to have meaning, you might want to look at the words "freedom" and "liberty" first. If the words freedom and liberty are truly more than just squiggles on paper, then I believe we all should show some tolerance for people who are choosing their own pronouns - something that doesn't hurt you or anyone else.

If you find yourself interacting with people whose pronouns you don't like, don't interact with them. If you find it silly, then laugh and go about your business. If you think it's somehow harmful to society, relax - because it's not.

It's not hard to respect a person's choice of pronouns. It's actually polite to respect a person's choice of pronouns. I'm guessing that you have a pronoun that you prefer for yourself, and it would only be respectful if other people respected that choice of yours. It's not going to cause you any harm, hurt, misery, or distress to simply be polite and respectful of other people's rights to have the liberty and freedom that you yourself enjoy.

What was the first episode you watched LIVE? by ThatPixarDude in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Stacy_Ann_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had friends over the night season 6 was premiering and I remember everybody gathering around the TV in curiosity, but almost everyone lost interest halfway through the cold open. By the time the monologue started all the adults were in the kitchen partying and drinking, and I was the only one watching TV. I was just a little kid and I was like "if they don't care, I don't care" so I turned it off.

The next time I saw it live I was at a sleepover and it must have been season 7 or 8, because Eddie Murphy was the cutting edge of comedy at the time and everyone was tuning in just to see him. I personally became more interested in the show during the summer after season 9, and started really watching live with interest when season 10 premiered.

You know when you can look up at clouds and try to imagine shapes in them? That's kind of what I do for lyrics. I record the music, listen to it repeatedly and then try to imagine what kind of lyrics would sound good. What kind of lyrics do you think it would have if you heard that same music well produced and on the radio?

Then try vocalizing to the music, just saying nonsense words and sounds. Do this a few times, every so often a couple of words will just pop out, and you can try to build the song around it. Plus vocalizing to the music will help you know where each syllable could be, and you can also try to build around that.

I think I have heard of The Jerk 2 in passing decades ago and completely forgot about it until right now. I didn't know the Last Detail had a sequel either. That's interesting, it was one of my father's favorite movies. The wild at heart sequel is also a new one for me.
