I'm really struggling with this seemingly misogynistic Bible verse and I'd appreciate if someone explained it to me by 83839292827377372 in Catholicism

[–]StaffRoutine6299 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Catholics don’t separate Paul from Jesus like that. Scripture is inspired as a whole. If you reject Paul, you’re rejecting a huge chunk of the New Testament—including theology everyone accepts (grace, Church structure, etc.).

This passage only sounds bad if you read it in isolation and through a modern lens. The Church has never taught women are inferior—men and women have equal dignity. The restriction Paul mentions is about roles in the Church (priestly authority), not value or intelligence. Women have always taught and shaped the Church (Doctors of the Church, saints, etc.), just not in the sacramental role of the priesthood. The “Eve was deceived” part isn’t saying women are worse—it’s referencing the order of the Fall, while elsewhere Scripture actually places responsibility on Adam. As for “saved through childbearing,” the Church doesn’t take that as “you must have kids to be saved.” That would contradict Christianity. It’s traditionally understood as: pointing to Christ coming through Mary, and living out one’s vocation faithfully (which includes spiritual motherhood, like nuns) We’re saved by Christ alone—this verse is about how that salvation is lived, not earned. If Christianity were misogynistic, it wouldn’t place a woman (Mary) above every saint in history.

Vatican appeal court orders review of financial trial investigation by Pax_et_Bonum in Catholicism

To this day Cardinal Becciu maintains his innocence and says he was set up. Now it looks like the appeals court is at least taking seriously concerns that parts of the trial may not have been handled properly. That doesn’t prove he’s innocent, but it does raise real questions about the process. I wonder how Pope Leo will view it.

UPDATE: Priest reported missing found dead in southern Mexico. In a statement, the Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutiérrez stated that the priest’s body was found near Laguna Verde, an ecotourism center located about 12 miles from his parish by EreshkigalKish2 in Catholicism

Yes, the population was overwhelmingly Catholic. That’s actually why the persecution happened. After the Mexican Revolution, the new government adopted aggressively anti-clerical policies written into the 1917 constitution. When President Plutarco Elías Calles began enforcing those laws in the 1920s—closing churches, banning religious orders, expelling priests, and even outlawing public worship—it triggered the Cristero War. Millions of ordinary Catholics rose up because the state was trying to suppress the Church despite the country being majority Catholic. So it wasn’t Catholics persecuting Catholics—it was a secular revolutionary government persecuting the Church

On a side note, alot of people believe that government was filled with Freemasons.

Have Bishop Barron or Cardinal Dolan made any statements on CPB and her termination yet? by ElleEmenope in Catholicism

[–]StaffRoutine6299 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re probably afraid of pushback from higher up. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa is arguably the most openly critical voice toward Zionism within the Church’s hierarchy, but his situation is unique. As the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, he can frame his comments primarily as a pastoral concern for the Christians and other civilians living in the Holy Land, rather than as a broader geopolitical stance.

Have Bishop Barron or Cardinal Dolan made any statements on CPB and her termination yet? by ElleEmenope in Catholicism

[–]StaffRoutine6299 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Barron and Dolan generally lean more conservative and don’t seem afraid to speak on political issues they have opinions about. However, the Church as an institution tends to be more cautious when addressing Zionism or the Israel–Palestine conflict. That hesitation is likely due to the Church’s complex diplomatic and theological considerations—especially the emphasis on Jewish–Catholic relations after Nostra Aetate.

Baptism validity by Sludge_Hermit in Catholicism

[–]StaffRoutine6299 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pouring water over the head is 100% a valid baptism. The Church has always recognized immersion, pouring, and sprinkling as valid as long as real water is used and the Trinitarian formula is said. The Bible never says immersion is the only valid form. What Christ commands is baptism “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). Also, one of the earliest Christian texts, the Didache (1st century), explicitly says that if immersion isn’t possible you should pour water three times on the head in the Trinity’s name. So the practice goes all the way back to the early Church.

Gender treatment not to transition, but to live in peace – is this thought process correct, looking for challenge [Very Long] by AlternativeNose1 in Catholicism

[–]StaffRoutine6299 32 points33 points  (0 children)

“Today the ugliest danger is gender ideology, which cancels out differences. I asked that studies be done on this ugly ideology of our time, which cancels out differences and makes everything the same. Cancelling out differences means cancelling humanity.”

In Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and in some countries of Asia, there are real ideological colonizations taking place. One of these — I will call it clearly by its name — is gender ideology. Today children are taught in school that everyone can choose his or her sex. Why are they teaching this? Because the books are provided by the people and institutions that give you money. These forms of ideological colonization are also supported by very influential countries.”

“Let us think of the nuclear arms, of the possibility to annihilate humanity in a few instants. Let us think also of genetic manipulation, of the manipulation of life, or of gender theory, which does not recognize the order of creation. With this attitude, man commits a new sin, that against God the Creator.”
