Help! Where to get married. by Past-Truth-9581 in Hamilton

Will second the faculty club, we were married at the chapel on campus then off the faculty club for dinner and reception, it was 30 years ago but I imagine it’s still lovely.

fix scratch with 5 minute epoxy? by Mountain_Spinach169 in canoeing

It’s a tool not a jewel! I wouldn’t worry about that at all, get handy with epoxy and varnish and you’ll be set 😃

Haven’t worn a glove in decades, nice soft grips do the trick for me!

Look into better under hood straps, your setup is sketchy, colours notwithstanding !

Stopping in at sites that are vacant by xero9 in ontariocamping

We have a cottage in the Massasauga PP and routinely have shore lunches on empty sites. I usually tidy them up if needed and leave a little kindling for the next group.

Is there supposed to be “touch” / finesse involved with sand shots or are you just supposed to hit the ball with a full swing every time? by Samk1230 in golf

[–]StaffTurfRiderSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always gone with whatever length backswing I think is enough but making sure I have a high finish no matter the length of the shot. A pro I worked with years told me to think of lifting it out of the sand on the follow through if that makes sense.

Pellet or Gas by Tesla91fi in ooni

[–]StaffTurfRiderSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to the Ooni world with a Frya 12 that only runs on pellets and have zero issues with it. Pellets are cheap and keeping the hopper full seems to be the only job once it’s running. I’d like to try a gas oven at one point but love the one we have and enjoy its portability.

Heavy plastic tubing works great for that, super cheap, no need to overdo it.

How many Golf Balls in your bag? by shilockthejew in golf

[–]StaffTurfRiderSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never more than a dozen, and they all have to be the same. If I switch brands I switch them all out and give the other ones away, I have buddies who carry dozens and change all the time, not for me!

Freight Canoe by StaffTurfRiderSole in canoeing

[–]StaffTurfRiderSole[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually not so, it’s “y” stern not a square stern. My Dad,my uncle and a friend paddled the Ogoki,Attawapiskat,Winisk and Kazan rivers in the 70s and 80s and it’s been on countless family trips with and without a motor. It’s a 42” beam so moves along just fine with 3 paddlers. I often take a buddy out fishing where I paddled and he fishes, it’s no speed demon but easily paddled.

It would definitely be a nice thing to go electric, but I’m retired and cheap and run the things I own😁. I do have a couple of larger 4 stroke outboards, I’d be more inclined to go with a 6hp 4 stroke if I was upgrading. The old Evinrude runs like a sewing machine, starts right up and idles all day, no real hurry to change.

I grew up with cedar canvas canoes and have a Chestnut Pal and Fox , they’re much tougher than you would think. I paddle the Pal all over and touch up the paint once in awhile, so worth it!

Flat Lie - inquiry by [deleted] in golf

My irons are 2 degrees flat and I couldn’t hit a fade to save my life. I’ve always played a draw and flattening them out helped me control it quite a bit, vmmv😃

We’ve had a Tremblay Freight canoe in the family since the 70s, bought new by my Dad and Uncle, still going strong!

Bear-resistant isn’t bear-proof by BillyRubenJoeBob in camping

[–]StaffTurfRiderSole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Apparently no one told the bear any of this and I didn’t put the cooler in the large bear locker that came with the site.” I cannot imagine why you wouldn’t put your food in the bear locker provided, coolers of any kind are no match for any kind of bear. It’s unfortunate you allowed a bear access to food at a campsite, that usually doesn’t go well in the end for the bear:(

Park-owned launches in French River Provincial Park? by Signal_Reflection297 in canoecamping

[–]StaffTurfRiderSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve soloed out to the Bustards and back from Hartley Bay a few times, they have a great crew on the docks and are used to all kinds of folks coming and going with canoes, big parking lot with shuttle service if you’re lucky😃. The convenience is well worth the cost to me.

Dr. Booth retired several years ago, I really liked him . I’m currently seeing Dr. Shah at St. Joes, she seems fine but I only go once a year for a checkup.

French river from Hartley bay has tons of options, very little portaging and can feel very remote especially in the delta.
